Does anyone have any experience / advice re fitting a Toyota MR2 Turbo engine into an Elise? 200 brake plus Toyota reliability sound a good mix.

Turbocharged Inline-4
Valvetrain DOHC, 4 valves / cylinder
Displacement 1998 cc / 121.9 cu in
Power 149.1 kw / 200.0 bhp @ 6000 rpm
Torque 271.2 nm / 200.0 ft lbs @ 3200 rpm
Bore 86.0 mm / 3.39 in
Stroke 86.0 mm / 3.39 in
Compression Ratio 8.8:1
BHP / Liter 100.1 bhp
Redline 7200 rpm

Sounds indeed not bad, ands its a 2 liter but from 1998 or so? but I have no experience in that engine? nor do I know if its a good engine or can be highly tuned and still will be reliable, also I don't know if there are many made so it could be cheap?
But it stays a Turbo engine and I don't know if its a old shool turbo(lag) or newer type? but a turbo in a lightweight?? I think a normaly aspirated is better or SC it also depends is it worth all the cost? is it better or much cheaper to do then the 2.3 duratec or audi turbo or even the Honda type R engine's?

i think they do llag more than the newer Evo and Scobby stuff, but still preetty good! the weight off the thing moght be an issue as i think its an iron block with ally head.

you could always remove the turbo and stick a rotex blower on there and get rid of the lag????

The Honda / Audi / Duratec route are the ones people talk about for a reason. They are the ones people have put in time and again because the cost & ease of fit & knowledge base is already there. No doubt you could try to squeeze the MR2 engine in however fit cost might be prohibitive, all the little extras to of pipes, mounts, looms etc will have to be re-engineered, you would have no support and potentially becuase it is a one off the insurers will likely laugh at you... That all said, good luck with it if you choose to pursue it

why re-invent the wheel?...there are already off the shelf engine conversions available with more power than that....waste of time and money in my opinion..

you can fit a 1.8 Audi turbo and have 330bhp/300lbft or a Duratec 2.0 with 210/170 or a Honda with 220/160 or 300/210 with supercharger....all off the shelf and ready to go with warranty

The 3S-GTE Engine from the MR2 is iron-blocked and heavy as a MoFo.... you can get rid of the lag issues by fitting a more modern Turbocharger, but why bother? When you can get up to 400bhp out of a Honda K20 engine? Any more power in an Elise just makes it more dangerous

After owning a few MR2's the 3S-gte engine is very capable and without modding the internals you can 350 -400 BHP. The trouble is they are a big iron block heaveyweight. Pointless in an Elise.
The Mk2 Mr2 never went round corners as well as it should. Far more interesting was the Mk1 engine 4-agze with the supercharger. Easy to get 200bhp. Again, big old lump of iron.

Stick to the honda conversions. We have just made a 1.6 B-16A deliver 230 bhp and rev to 11k (limited)Normally aspirated. The civic Type R engine is nuts with a supercharger.
