just thinking here but as the title says do you think you could stick a scooby engine in the abck of an Elise????

lotus has put a V6 longitudinally in the back so i would have thought length would not be an issue. not sure on width! also the engines centre of gravtiy will be nice and low. these engines are redialy avaliable, relaiable and powerfull (400bhp is relativly easy).

as for gearbox i think the VWA diesel ones work!

so what you guys thing? could it work

Chris.

anything is possible...bear in mind to make that V6 fit they had to lengthen and widen the rear of the chassis.

If you have big ££££ to spend then maybe someone will shoehorn one in for you as a one off...i wouldnt expect much change out of £15K though once youd had everything fabricated etc....and thats if it fits....if you have to start modding the chassis and clams then add another £10K

...but there really is no point...you can drop a 1.8 Audi turbo in there and have a reliable 330bhp for £13K ....thats more than enough (for a few more grand you could have a built 1.8 turbo and make 400bhp easy enough)

why re-invent the wheel and go through all the pain, car off the road for months, and be the guinea pig for something unproven......all of the engine conversions available for the Elise were developed over 2-3 year periods...with tens (in some cases hundreds) of thousands of pounds spent on development to make them work properly.......

Flat four engines are designed to be mounted longitudanally. I can't see you ever fitting on in a transverse application.

They're way too wide.

cant see the point in trying when you can already fit honda and audi engines in.

althought i wouldnt say common, there do seem to be a few cases of scooby engines going bang

As Tony Shute says the car has taken v10's, v8 etc. The chassis is very adaptable and you can stick anything in. It comes down to cost. There are tried and tested slutions available "off the shelf", why would you waste your time on the development of a new solution when you dont have to?

not sure it would fit. - the flat four is really shallow, but it's quite wide. - you might find it'll just not go without totally redesigning the rear suspension.

go for the audi!
