I've written it off
Discussion
Hi guys, about a month ago i posted piccys sayin how glad i was that i had finally bought my lotus which looked like this:
unfortunately i lost control coming off a roundabout and swerved into a lampost. no injuries luckily.
anway, the insurance co. have classed the car as a write off. the claim was made 19th feb. i am still waitin for the settlement to be paid. any ideas of how long a claim takes to go through. I am insured with elephant.
secondly, any ideas of how much i am likely to receive. paid 17k for the car. i did ask the insurer but they wont say.

...Ive read posts in the past of them being written off during the first few days
..and all too often its the wet roundabout or corner.....
best advice is to get back into one ASAP and then book a day on the airfield with Walshy to get your confidence back...also a few basic things like get a geo check, and check tyre pressures beforehand - that way you know everything is spot on.

Sorry to hear that dude - I also learned the hard way
Heard of a car stollen when up for sale at £4300 but insurance paid £4500 as that was market value ?? Go figure....
It should be replacement cost - if in doubt tell them to source one. <600 made they'll struggle. Failing that buy the wreck back and fix yourself ??

unfortunately the co. wont let me buy the car back. they said it was against policy to allow people to buy back written off vehicles.
the damage was estimated at 10k and they still wrote it off. surprised they didnt repair it
Well at least you are OK. A fellow near me was not so lucky in late December. The elise / exige is a quick car, but is also a really difficult car to master. I probably never will get close to mastering it. They need respect or they can bite. You aren't the first from PH to stack one this year and you definitely won't be the last.
Driver training cannot be emphasised enough. Ironically the more track driving I do, the slower I drive on the roads.

By the time you factor in hire car and everything else, it isn't that surprising. I've got a friend who made a grand when he wrote off his S1 a few years back so keep fighting for a good payout - the advice about cutting out ads etc to use as evidence is good. It is what he did.
Anyway sorry about your accident, keep driving though, especially if you've found it has knocked your confidence. Gotta get back in the saddle etc...

6 weeks mate. That's got to be a record!!
Not a record to be proud of

Luckely you walked out ok, and it can happen to every one on some moment(maybe not on that same moment and spot)
Anyway...hope you will come out ok, and give the car and roads the respect they own? and have fun with your next pride and joy.

theres no question about that. i will definitely be taken it easy.
i was hoping to prove everyone wrong aswel. accidents happen, and i will definitely have learned from this.
gotta get back in the 'best seat in the house' ASAP mate. I totalled mine in Aug---gutted for about a month. Found a new one, tread a bit more carefully now though. Walshy is the best idea to get back a bit of confidence, but I have been on tip toes all winter. My insurance company (AON) were good, the assesor saw the car at C Neils, and also used their stock for a valuation reference point, so I broke even, and was able to replace her at no loss.
I know everybody has said that its just a car, but it isn't is it, we all know that, BUT the main thing is that you are OK.
PS my insurance company wanted to double the premium after the bump, shopped around and actually saved money, try Norwich Union Direct.

I have looked around for insurance. i have been lucky. i originally paid £800 for the year with elephant.
with the claim, i have lost my 2yrs ncb. i checked my renewal with admiral (same company) and i can get insurance for £1020. thats not too bad considering a 17k or so claim.
any ideas how much longer it will be before a payout is made?? already been 4 weeks

cheers for the advice. i have been given them hassle. constantly on the phone to them, but they still say they are waiting for certain info.
i am still waitin for a guy to come out and interview me about what happened and give a written statement. (not the police). some guy from a company called Farleys. he then has to issue a report and send that to the insurance.
long old process this.
