Driving home after a track day last week I noticed my fuel pump getting noisey when stuck in traffic, the car immediately spluttered and stalled, I turned the ignition off & then re-started the car, after the usual pump priming sound the car ran fine & the fuel pump was quiet as usual.

I went out for a fast blat on Saturday and when I stopped at some traffic lights the car did exactly the same, once again it started again straight away and ran fine. Yesterday I noticed the car is slightly hesitant under acceleration when going from a slow speed in a low gear accelerating hard, it splutters once, then clears and pulls as strongly as ever.

Has anyone experienced this before? The cars done around 58,000 & Im gonna change the fuel filter as the first port of call as the noisey fuel pump makes me think its fuel pickup related, could the fuel pump be on the way out?

Any thoughts appreciated.

I have been suffering similar problems. The car runs fine 99% of the time, but if I cane if for a few minutes it will cough and splutter on anything other than full throttle or tickover. If I pull over and turn it off for about 30seconds or so, and restart it, it runs fine. This misfire is a pain in the arse, as I want to use the car for a few track days. But because the misfire is quite hard to induce when not on a track, I'll probably have to replace many perfectly good parts before I find the faulty one. Not much use to you, but at least you know you are not the only person with this sort of problem.
