The steering comment is the really odd part leading me to think that the guy has never driven one. I was very suprised the first time I drove an Elise at just how light the steering was at any speed other than zilch. That was an S1 as well, which if anything has heavier steering than an S2. The noise thing is cack as well. Why on earth will you concentrate in a quiet car more? If anything, you're more likely to drift off. Besides which, Elises aren't that noisey in the grand scheme of things.
