Its that time of year again, 13th March is fast approaching, so thought I would start the discssions on what where and when.

From a personnel point of view I can not do the weekend of 15th/16th March, but I am free 8th/9th March.
So what dates would othere prefer and what are we going to top the 2nd birthday bash.

So the date is the 8th 9th March.
Suggestions;
1) Devon Dash then up through cheddar ... then in the evening I will get us a table at 1812 for food and cocktails.
2)See if we can do a walshy day ... then in the evening I will get us a table at 1812 for food and cocktails.
3) Is there a trackday via LOT? ... then in the evening I will get us a table at 1812 for food and cocktails.

I may have to miss it this year, It's Mrs FW's 40th Birthday on the 10/03 and we are busy the weekend after so it looks as if I will be taking her away over the weekend of the 8 & 9.

I have suggested we have a weekend in Bournemouth / Devon, got away with this last year but not going to manage that again.

PS - Don't let her know I mentioned to everyone that she is 40 this year.

I'd love to tag along for the run part if you decide to come down to Devon. Be good to see you all again.

Right guys, I have no idea at this stage whether I'll be in the country or not in March - hopefully I'll be be scrabbling around in a wreck at 40mts in tropical waters... but if that plan doesn't come to fruition, I'll definitely be coming along.

Have done some research with LOT and though there is nothing on 8/9 March, the following weekend has two events if the trackday option becomes the vote, although each would be a real push (read impossible) to make a single day event and get back to 1812 for white russians....

14th March - Abbeville (1hr from Calais)... ideal track for novices, essentially its a (slightly) grown up go-kart track. Great for exploring the limits of grip in an elise/exige at relatively low speeds, but there's also plenty of fun to be had by the more experienced track day driver.

15th March - Criox en Ternois (1hr from Calais)... a bit more of a proper circuit than Abbeville, but again, mostly low speed corners where you can get to know your car better.

Bank Holiday Friday 21st March... Bedford Aerodrome, sorry this event has been cancelled, in favour of the LOTRDC event at Brands

Both days have lots of spaces available at present, but we need to bear in mind that if we decide to go down the track day route:

A) It almost certainly involves an overnight stay.
B) It will be more expensive than a road run (Budget 200-250 per car for track, fuel, food and accomodation, and another 50 quid for a channel crossing)
C) There will be a fair amount to organise, so we would need to get cracking on this ASAP IF it prooves to be a popular option.

I'd be more than happy to start liasing with LOT over getting some kind of "block" reservation put together and researching hotel etc, although I may have to hand this over to someone else (SimonK??) if my travel plans come to fruition.

So probably the best bet is to have a bit of a vote on Kyle's three options first and see where that takes us.

Sadly I won't be able to make it on any of the above dates this year, due to a wedding and a snowboarding trip.

If I were you though, I'd take subby's suggestion and do a trackday at Abbeville - brilliant fun.

Yeah I was thinking of organizing an 'Abbeville The Return' event.... maybe try and avoid the Police a bit more this time....

But... if I sell my car.... hum... well there is always the 60's Mini... see if you can keep up with that!

OK, so in theory its soon. Like 3 or 4 weekends away, so what doea everyone want to do.

Topic came up during this mornings BoLOCs run to Zig-Zag and the only realistic suggestions were Devon, or Brecon, with the Lake District a less viable 3rd.
Advantage of Devon is that most have done it before, so the route is a known.
Advantage of Brecon is that its been done before, but in appalling weather, so possibly a second attempt would let us actuslly see the scenary we are driving through this time, assuming the weather isnt as bad this time.
Disadvantge of both of the above, is that both have been done before
Last District has the advantage of being totally new, disadvantages being time to get there in the first place, plus not actually having a specific route to take planned yet.

So ideas, suggestions, preferences from all greatly appreciated. With such a shortened timeframe to get something organised we need to have something definate by the end of this week.

I would be happy with either Devon or Brecon, however my attendance depends on Babysitting availability and / or Mrs FW's birthday celebrations.
