I've never bought a lotus new before but am considering an SC. It would probably have to be built to order due to colour etc. Is it possible to deal directly with the factory, or do you have to go through a dealer?

Cheers

Tom.

In between Leicester and Nottingham. Popped in to Stratstone Leicester yesterday and they were very helpful. Any other recommendations?

Thanks

Tom.

I bought my Lizzy from Peter Smith Sports Cars in Hatton - from personal experience I can't fault them - tell Peter I sent you wink

Got mine from London Lotus without even visiting the dealership. Everything was done by telephone and email and they even arranged delivery to Liverpool for me. Excellent service from them and will probably buy next car from them as well.

Anyone got any views on Nick Whale - they are only 40-50 miles from the OP I think? (SW Birmingham).

Maybe a bit far but I highly recommend Bell and Colvill, I've bought two cars from there from new and they've been terrific in every way both times.

I've dealt with Stratstone Leicester quite a few times for sorting out various niggles, tyres etc. and they have always been decent. I've never bought a car from there but the sales guy Mark is very knowledgeable and their prices seem reasonable. Have a look on MLOC (http://www.midlandslotus.co.uk) as people on there have bought from them. Why travel if your local dealer is OK? You'll probably be in there for servicing/niggles (expect niggles!) anyway.

As the first person I've heard of getting an SC, you do realise that we will expect a full and detailed report when you get it. We do a fair few runs around this area as well when the weather gets a bit better if you're interested... driving

Thanks All. Mark was the guy we spoke to at Stratstone and he was very helpful indeed.

If we get the SC then you will get a full detailed report and an early run out would certainly be a good idea! The only thing which puts me off the SC is the weight, seems to be getting a bit more like a Noble than an old S1 if you see what I mean, but it looks like a great car (and a lot more useable) if you accept that it's not as pure as the original.

Got mine from Nick Whale - Stratstone didn't even return calls when I 'phoned re changing my Elise for my current Exige. Worth talking to a few dealers (Smith/Whale/Stratstone) just to ensure you get the right deal.

I've recently bought a brand new Elise. I went for the R again but only because I just couldn't afford the extra. If it goes anything like the supercharged exiges it will be amazing.

My bits of advice:
1. Feel free to approach any dealer in the country. Many offered to bring the car to me on a trailer, and there won't be problem getting it serviced at your local dealer.
2. Don't feel bad about dealers beating each other down to get the best price. I had my local dealer tell me "I've taken you on two test drives so you should by from me". Boll0cks.
3. I can thoroughly recommend speaking to Scott at Hadley Green, Warren at JCT Brooklands in Leeds, and Jamie at Lipscombe in Maidstone. These are all people who are interested in competing for your business.

Feel free to contact me for more information. Best of luck.

PS: Can't wait to hear your detailed review. It won't be hard to improve upon the one in the Sunday Times!

What colour are you thinking of Tom? I'm not so sure about the orange one in the press photos. I reckon ice white with black wheels would look the dog's bcensoredcks

That would look great, but (for reasons I won't go in to) it would probably have to be non-metallic BRG. Doesn't really suit the car IMO but my hands are tied! Probably with silver wheels rather than black.

Phoned round a few places today for prices (all very helpful) but to get the spec we need we're looking at a list price of over £40k. For instance the sport pack doesn't include adjustable dampers or an LSD. £40k is a lot of money for an Elise. So that I can figure out what it's actually going to cost when all's said and done, does anyone know what sort of % discounts is it usually possible to get on a new lotus?
