I have found a way to purchase a highly modified 240RS.
This car is one of a kind, most regulars know it well and admire it.

So Lets have a debate on the pro's and cons and help me make up my mind.

Lets start with reasons to buy.
1) It is a 240R, which in my opinion is the best package Lotus have put on a road ever.
2)It has some of the best mods made to the car, not only that the car has been modded by the best in the business with a "money no object" point of view.
3) It is a bargain for what it is
4) There will never be another one like it.

Lets look at reasons NOT to Buy.
1)I already have a Lotus, A fine example of the breed which I have spent lots on and I really love my car.
2) It will be paid for this year.
3) Though I can get the money for it - I cant afford it.
4) I made a serious promise to my wife that she would be next in line for a good car.
5) I made a promise to my wife that this year we would get a house in the countryside
6)I really dont like Yellow (sorry guys, but it reminds me of an old friends yellow 300z. It did look cool in '98, but not now.)
7) I am not a big track driver and this is a serious track weapon.
8) I do large amounts of road / commute miles all across the country, it isnt really the car for this.
9) I love the roof off in the summer
10) Though it is one of the best lotuses out there but it is still an exige (which arent pretty) and with half an airbus strapped to its arse, its own parent wouldnt give it a kiss

BUT - I really want this car and I would regret not buying it for a very long time.

good points are, i'm sure valid so i'll help you on the bad points;

buy it and give the wife your elise - will sort out the bad points 4, 8 and 9.Easy wink

wrt point 7, well you can always look to do more track days (says he who is looking to do his first come spring...)

and point 5) why do you want a place in the country side - you will spend all your time stuck in traffic getting to/from it in the summer. and when you get there all the nice lanes will be full of people pootling about as its the summer and its busy. Will just make you mad

am I the devil sitting on your shoulder whispering into your ear....? evilsmile

Hope I've been helpful.... smile

Apologies to Kurt but for you Gooby, it's a pipe dream. A very nice one but if you don't 'do' track and do lots of road then it doesn't add up. And I'm sure Kurt wouldn't want to see it up for sale again and we wouldn't want to hear how much you've lost in the divorce courts...

Put it to one side, you'll have dirty thoughts about another car soon enough yes

Well....

It's got fully adjustable suspension and as people like Sworks will tell you, even set firm the ride is great on road and can be made more supple very easily.

(Not my personal choice) but the roof does come off and how cool will the colour coded cage look when everyone can see it!

You can buy the landy as well then you and the misses get a new car evilevilevil

Live in the Country.... it's all countryside where you live... it's hardly 'city centre' living is it!

And finally I'm sure Twin would volunteer to take your place and be Mrs Gooby's whipping boy eek

Anyway it's Sport Yellow.... nothing common about that... polished and clean I'm told it looks even better!

I have my sensible head on at present so I say no, love the car but your cons list is longer than the pros.

I may repost later to say buy it (after a couple of glasses of wine).

Sorry if this is not the answer you wanted (sorry Kurt, anyway they always say don't sell to someone you know (also he will break it))

Don't know what to say mate. Head says no, do the right thing by the house this year, then supercharge the Elise if you want to next. Heart says, to hell with it, do it. BUT ONLY IF YOU'RE GOING TO USE IT LIKE IT SHOULD BE!!!

Seriously good car, and as I've always said, one of two Lotus' that I would swap mine for. If some life changes hadn't happened to me recently, it would be sold and in my posession by now.

Whoever gets it will be getting a car that will be worth keeping for life.

There is nothing on this planet that convinces me that Mrs Gooby will forgive you if you do buy it.
The new house and new car have been on the list for ages and its the existing Lotus thats taking up the money, preventing those from happening. You spend even more money on a car and she'll have new set of ear rings, and you'll be a Soprano

Mrs Gooby agrees. Killing is not her style, she likes to se suffering over many years.

I cant get permission and the flimsy arguements put together by the "brain trust" above, have not helped....
