Why on Earth would anyone with a Honda'd S2 want to see an M3 tongue out I mean, even you don't want it.

It's no mid life crisis! Went to the track for the first time recently and absolutely loved it. M3 is expensive to run, I reckon one session cost me £1200-ish all in, and I want something just as fast, more fun, and cheaper to track. Fuel alone in the M3 cost me £180, I could probably save £60 with a Lotus, which is half the cost of the track day fee!

I must appologuise on behalf of the lotus clan for giving you stick about the new M3. Mid life crisis my ass !! I would swap my elise for the new M3 ! I dont have a honda engine yet but if I did, I'd be happy to take you out and go out in the M3.

The elise will save you a lot of money on track in comparison, go for it !

Must admit to having a big downer on all things BMW, but the new M3 is as close as I have yet come to admittng to liking one.
When you look at whats it is and what it is capable of, its a good car, just for me BMW on it, takes the shine off. (Now an Audi RS4 biggrin )

Just got back from Bell & Colvill, and spoke to Richard Dean there. I went out for a test drive in the Exige 220bhp. I don't envy Richard, he doesn't know me from Adam and for me to jump in a pretty quick car with no T/C and give it a test drive must not be good for his nerves! He managed to keep the "greasy section" and "tight corner" comments to the minimum though.

I think as the car I want will need to be used on the road too, the supercharged is the way forward. Peaky power is fine on the track, but I think a NA Toyota car wouldn't be the right thing for me on the road. Not sure what the Honda is like though?

In terms of driving it, the steering was very light off centre, I guess this is the initial turn in where bushes, sidewalls, etc, flex up? The top of the brake pedal also didn't get on with me, I prefer a pedal where it has less travel, but you moderate it with the pressure you put on it rather than the actual pedal position. Otherwise a big thumbs up for the test drive.

Bell & Colvill very good, it's nice to go to a car dealer who doesn't put you in an arm lock to get you to sign on the dotted line within 5 mins of you entering the showroom.

Quite possibly the geometry (which the Elise is very sensitive to) is out. If set up correctly the steering is positivly teeming with feel and should remain well weighted. A courtesy 111R I drove last year had a notably less precise feel when cornering. Likely some hamfist had clouted a kerb in it previously.

Yep, top guys down at B&C. Bought my Elise from them, can't recommend them enough. thumbup

Have a go in Brooke Kensington's Honda demonstrator before you decide. In Bicester IIRC.
