splitter... fitted :)
Discussion
Well the most travelled splitter (prior to being fitted to a car) has finally found a home...
once owned by subaqua, it gathered dust in a garage
then it moved to lotusstuart's where it sat lonely (not for long) until it made it's way into my garage & onto the car this morning!
Makes the whole front end look much meaner & lower.
Oh and i finally fitted a numberplate after nearly 3 years without... MOT in 2 weeks
booo

I'm thinking about one to protect the clam - how easy is it to fit? Do you bolt it on somehow?
Would be interested to hear too as I am thinking of one for this summerBasically you stick the car on blocks, take out the front tray, offer up the splitter, drill out pilot holes in splitter & straight through the bottom of your front clam (the scary bit), then use bolts & the biggest washers you have to bolt it all together, tray back on, off the blocks... done

Went out for a spin yesterday & it felt quite different. Much more planted at around 80, and more responsive on the front end. Tested it upto around 100 (on a private road obviosuly) and the splitters still on for now

Sounds like it's jinxed to me mate, baring in mind the fate of those two cars!then it moved to lotusstuart's...

Oh, I remember when my front splitter looked all lovely and new like that...
But don't worry, that horrible cracking/scraping sound you will soon experience is all part of the course, and the white bits can easily be covered up with black touch-up.
Worth it for the meaner look though! I wouldn't be seen without mine.

Is this a carbon fibre pre-preg version or a GRP one sprayed? The reason for asking is that searching around on the net pre-preg carbon fibre ones seem to be £500 which I think is steep for the manufacturing process as they are trying to re-coup the money for the expensive tooling! A GRP version would be cheaper to make as the tools are not as expensive and could be sold a lot cheaper. I guess what I am getting at is there a market out there for GRP versions or is carbon fibre a must?

It's fibre glass with black gel coat as far as i know. Bought from tigga on SELOC for £99, he seems to have sold a lot of them with no problems to date.I'd certainly not spend the money on a carbon one as the chances if it getting smashed are pretty high & that would be a huge waste of cash!
Obviously you do have to be a little careful with pulling the front up to kurbs. it drops the clearance by about 15mm i believe

ha ha, yeah but check out how stone chipped the front of my car is anyway... I've given up with touch up pens after about the 10th one But don't worry, that horrible cracking/scraping sound you will soon experience is all part of the course, and the white bits can easily be covered up with black touch-up.

Lotus paint huh... what a sack of sh*t

In terms of protecting the clam - does it do this? I can understand the "make a noise - stop before doing damage to the clam" type of thing but what about for the grounding at speed sort of thing? I'm thinking about when I went over a train track too quick (15 mph) last week in the dark and there must have been one heck of a hole as I split the "ears" onthe front clam - would the splitter have helped here or made it worse by applying a lever to the clam?
The experience of someone here or seloc also springs to mind when they went into flood water too fast and the splitter and undertray folded back under the car - was the splitter useful or a contributing factor in that sort of thing?
I love the look, I'm just worried about the down side...

Glad you made good use of it! Looks stunning, just a bit gutted I couldn`t fit it myself. But then it would have been wasted, having sold the car 2 weeks after!! Had we been keeping it I would deffo fitted it, makes the front end look great. Hmmm, I wonder how much front splitters are for S2000`s?

I had a similar one fitted a few years back - it does help with high speed stability (>90mph) and does protect the clam from gentle scrapes (although you lose 10mm with it fitted so you may scrape it more)
..however, I hit a rabbit once, and caught the clam at speed on a bumpy B road which damaged it quite badly...20 mins later travelling at 70mph the air pressure ripped it off so it went back and stuck under the front of the car and took the bottom of the clam with it = new clam needed and £2.5K insurance job.
So moral of the story - when fitting make sure to use some realy big washers/spreader plates...or maybe even bond it on also...I went for a different splitter after that - the Alvan style ones (still sold by Sinclaires) which are bonded on and you dont lose any ground clearance

any pics of the Avlan one - not suffering any less clearance sounds good... ?
there's a pic on the SELOC wiki as per below, i don't think it's as nice myself!
