New brake discs how much to install
Discussion
Apologies for the numpty question. My front discs are shagged & being a bit special when it comes to all things mechanical would prefer to get a garage to replace these & the pads for me. Out of interest how long would this take & how much would I be looking at paying to get done ?

I am a mechanical numpty also, but even I managed to change my pads last week in about an hour and a half?
Doing the disks as well shouldn't add more than another hour as it is about 2 bolts and 1 screw/bolt extra per wheel/side.
I reckon a pro-mechanic could do the whole lot in under an hour?
Have a go yourself, you will save a fortune and get a great deal of satisfaction.

Any garage should do it within an hour, but I doubt they'll charge you that, bet on them taking over an hour and charging for two.
This is super easy to do and requires few tools.See here for a guide.

If you are fitting the discs yourself don't forget that the nuts that secure the discs will have to be torqued to the correct torque setting,so you'll need to get yourself a good torque wrench.Does anyone know the torque settings for discs?
If the car is an S2,the disk retaining screw (1 off) doesn't need to be torqued, but the caliper retaining bolts do (45NM) and of course the wheel bolts (105NM).jb111s said:
See now I'm confused already, Torque settings, special tools...
I think I'm just going to take the hit on the wallet otherwise I'm going to end up drilling holes in the floor panel & doing flinstone braking..
seriously it's really not that hard to do. i'm a bit of a technical numpty and managed it no problems. what took me the longest was jacking the car up etc & getting set up.I think I'm just going to take the hit on the wallet otherwise I'm going to end up drilling holes in the floor panel & doing flinstone braking..
the instructions on seloc wiki are all you need. no particularly special tools, just a bit of time required!

) pliers will work but you have to push as you twist and if you slip, it hurts and can damage the caliper seals.
