What state are the fronts in? If they're half-worn I'd suggest getting a new set of rear Bridgestones for now - they'll last as long as the fronts take to wear away.

When all 4 have worn, consider Yokohama AD07s, however shop around, they can be stupidly expensive and whilst they are very good, I wouldn't pay £200 more than Bridgestone prices for a set.

I've got Yokohama AVS Sports all round on my 135R during these wet months and have found the grip to be excellent both dry and wet.

Come summer the A048s will be going back on biggrin

Don't mix your tyres up though!!

Nothing wrong with them - they were designed for the S2 and work very well plus last a long time. The only disavantage is they can overheat on track after a few laps, but no worse than most road tyres.

The AD07s are great on track but for road use you won't notice a huge difference.

If you are content to drive everware at 20mph, I would agree. Other than that there is a huge difference in feel and handling. The Advans are actually better in the wet and way better in the dry.

The advans were also designed for the car and generally lotus dont re-design something unless they have too.

Another vote for AD07s. I've had all 4 upgraded from Bridgestones to Advans recently and I like 'em. Cost £530 from a main dealer including fitting. I reckon that good tyres may well end up saving my ass someday when I overstep the talent mark, so tyres seemed the wrong thing to economise on. Just need to update my pads from the spongy OEMs to something with a bit more bite

Like a business deal hehe

I don't recall roadtests saying what a pile of crap the Lotus Elise is before the AD07s came about...in fact I recall massive praise for the tyres at the time. Perhaps the lardy 'yota lump makes the difference?

£530! You can get them supply only for just over £400...

Wouldn't necessarily agree with the saving ass bit - some of the best handling cars give a little away in outright grip - Mazda MX-5 is a classic example. Too much grip and when you're sent off the road it's at much higher speeds...

Cheers for that fellas not that it makes it much easier now like but say for example if i were to go for a different make on the back than the front would that make my car worse, my front tyres dont need replacing just yet so i was thinking about just getting the same again the RE040's.

I wouldn't recommend it unless you are a driving god - you can lose a lot of the car's balance

In comparison between the tyres - the bridgstones are without a doubt 2nd place. There are a lot of tyres I would have before I resort to putting 'stones back on. Nasty breakaway in the wet and understeery in all conditions.

There are those who rate them, including Shangani, I am not one of them.

To the OP. The important thing is not to mix tyres.

Much of the understeer will be down to the geo - I had my car setup by Plans and did a track day a week later - not only did it improve the feel massively but you it was easy to tuck the nose in on the throttle.

There's not much else you can get for an Elise with standard wheels, haven't tried the Dunlops but the Toyos are a joke in comparison.

They're only sold via the Lotus network - ie: dealers and specialists.

You can get non LTS compound though can you not? Not a lot of difference between them from what I've read.

The lotus compound is softer because the car is light.

So when I change the AVS Sports for the A048s come summer should I buy the Lotus stamped ones?

Not sure, I dont know about the '48's. If they are stamped LTS, I would assume they are a different compound.
