Na it will rev way past that up towards 8000 but peak power is 118bhp@ 5500rpm so your not doing your self any favours taking it up there !

No, Noodleman is correct; 6,750rpm is where the rev limiter should cut in on a standard (118bhp) car. On a 111S (VVC engine) or a Sport 160, it should cut in at 7,250rpm. If yours revs towards 8K either:

a) your tacho is mis-reading (not unlikely; tachos are often ludicrously inaccurate) or;

b) your rev limiter isn't functioning correctly and any time soon there's going to be a big BANG! from 12" behind your head. wink

The owners book and service manual says 7000rpm. Doesn't it depend how quickly you are going up the rev range? If you creep up slowly it'll go to 7000 but if you shoot up the revs, as in a missed gear, it'll stop at 6800?

My rev limiter cuts in at 6750 no matter how you get there.

As mentioned earlier though you're way past peak power at this point and a change up at a shade over 6K seems (or at least feels) to produce the best results. The only time I ever really rev past this is from 4th to 5th because 5th is just too long geared.

My S1 used to cut in at 6,750 on the dot, as well (and I always calibrate my tachos against my engine analyser, 'cos I know how inaccurate they can be).

My car used to rev quite freely at the top end, though (with only very minor mods - filter, throttle body, decat and sports exhaust), so I spent quite a bit of time bouncing off the limiter! biggrin

Thing is mine revs to 7K and its feels like its still pulling strong.

My mate P10oly with a sport 160 thinks it feels like his. But my engine looks stock! Its also got 72K on it. When i had a little play with his sport 160 we were pretty peg level! But only mod is a BMC CDA air filter as far as i can see.

It also uses virtually NO oil... engine rebuild with uprated cams and ECU in the past?
