57 plate 111R with 650 miles on it plus £1k cash for an 06 plate Laser Blue (least fav colour)Exige S Demo car with 6000 miles on it??

Did a bit of hypothetical window shopping today and decided to drive to Lotus Ribble Valley to give my car a good run on the motorway. Sexy little Exige S started flirting with me and i am now tempted.............

If the cost really is only 1K then I'd be very tempted (finance costs or anything like that to add?). I know what you are saying about laser blue but I have seen some very nice ones around with silver or white stripes wink

No finance at all.
I actually went to look at a new Chilli Red one that they have had for almost 12 months hoping to offer illy money and walk away with a good deal. When i got there itr was sold depsite the website still saying it was available. I dont think i have seen a good Lotus website anywhere. Its an area that most Lotus dealers need to improve on.

If there's no finance complications/costs then I'd go for it. Mentally you've already spent (read as "lost&quotwink the money on the R so basically I would justify it as being £1K for an Exige S wink You'll lose money on both cars whatever you do so why not go for it.

I'm seriously considering chopping in mine for something silly.

What do you call something silly??
Whats the X5 like that you have?? I have been tempted to trade my "family" car a couple of times for one.

Something silly is something built in the 60's with a rotton chassis! Seriously considering a "project" but all the GT's and dinos (see SELOC) have been snapped up. Although... I do know of a dino with a missing passenger door and no glass in the rear which is sitting is a very well respected Lotus bodyshop (along with numerous other phenomenal classics).

The X5? Can't fault it, really can't. Bought it nearly 2 years ago and it's still not had a service, does 35+ on a run (3.0d Sport) and got enough torque to shame a few hot hatches. If I was buying now I'd get an '04 3.0d Sport with Comms. pack and spend a few hundred getting it chipped by DMS. Similar spec and performance to the new twin turbo but £30K less!

Only issue is BMW labour and part prices but having moved from an M3 cab. quite frankly an X5 is cheap!

As said, had the X5 two years (bought when 2 years old so 4 in all) and it hasn't cost a penny but tax/ins. and fuel. Will need tyres soon (about £750) and an oil service (£200?) so about £1K. This should last another 2 years when the missus will be ready for something new.

I'm not trying to be nasty or anything but this is surely insanity unless you enjoy burning money. With only 650 miles on the R its not even run in so you can't have used all the performance yet. As such, surely you can't be sure that you don't like it and if you somehow are sure, couldn't you have worked that out before buying it in the first place?

Might it be worth driving it for a few more miles just to get it run in so you can use all the performance for a while before chopping in if you must? I doubt you'd lose much more than the offer that is on the table now. Final thing, LRV have always been one of the more pricey dealerships, they've had that Laser Blue one for a good while and there are loads of other places with low miles Exige S' in other colours if you have a look around. If you must have it, try and screw a bit more out of them.

No offence taken. I was simply bored yesterday and decided to go for a good spin. It is highly unlikely that i will buy the Exige S as i dont really like the colour. The 111R is a great car and there is nothing i dont like about it but one day it will be swapped for an Exige S. Probably not now as i would prefer a new one in the colour of my choice.

As Janitor and I were saying today, cars cost money. It comes down to whether or not you get "value" from it. Whatever a car costs while you own it the question is, is it worth it to you?

My Exige must have cost me about £1.50 a mile this year. For me I need a car anyway and even a "normal" car would probably cost £1 a mile so 50p a mile for an Exige... okay, thats how I jusify it. bowtie

Speaking as someone who has, in the past, changed his cars far too frequently, you just need to slow down some and enjoy the scenery.

Just had a call off the dealer and my £1k interpretation was wrong. They actually want my car plus £6k for theirs. I just laughed at him.
Are you being serious re your last post?

That would value your car around £23k. What a joke.

Not sure I can see this is much of a surprise. Whilst I don't know what option packs are on either the Elise or Exige in question.... a standard Exige was 2 grand (ish) more expensive than an Elise R. An Exige S is around 6 grand more than a standard Exige, making it 8K more than the Elise, so the fact that the price to change your elise for the exige is 6k, means that the exige has depreciated by 2k more than your car.

You might want to argue the deal should work more in your favour as the Exige is older and has more miles on the clock than your elise, but then the dealer will presumably be keen to sell your car for a profit too... as he is running a business, has to pay the rent, rates etc and presumably wants to pay his own and his staff's salaries.

I am I'm afraid, don't ever buy another car from that dealer and if you wouldn't mind e-mailing me who they are as I'll add it to my list of Lotus dealer not to deal with

Sorry I've just re-read your post and have their detail's Tks
