Have not used the car for a long time, managed to get a long needed day off yesterday and went to see the in laws.

The car started ok and ran fine for a while then started to have huge mis-fires as if the all the HT leads were breaking down.

Limped the car to the in-laws and left it overnight as it was getting dark. Had a look this morning, wiggled all the connectors and it ran ok for a while but it didn't take long before it was playing up, then the MIL light came on and it ran ok.

Popped into a mates garage today and they picked the fault code up as lamda sensor. They reset it and the mil light went out and the car ran ok for a while then went back to running rough, the MIL light then came back on and the car ran ok, not fantastic but ok.

Has this happened to anyone else when a sensor failed?

The last time I had a sensor fail the car just threw up a MIL light but ran ok, I did have a de-cat at the time.

Rover engine S2.

Disconnect the post cat lambda (take left rear wheel off) connector is under the wheelarch. Engine will run OK but see if the fault persists. If yes then its not the Lambda (even though the OBD may give misfire and Lambda codes) and more likely the TPS or a Coil pack.

If you need to remove the lambda sensor be VERY CAREFUL how you take it out they are notorius for being stuck as it almost welds itself to the exhaust because of the heat, just spray on some WD40 first and leave it to penetrate before you attempt to remove it.It looks like a spark plug and as the last member has informed you is sited under the left wheel arch and fits directly onto the cat.
