last night the indicator light flew out of my £30,000 Lotus Elise.

It's going. Another car ordered. It's German

Drivers door on my 500 mile Exige S broke for the second time at the weekend. Hoping my patience does not run out before the summer lets me use it more but I am also already making enquiries about something German!

Lotus make lovely cars. But....today I risk letting down a client because I have no car. Anyway, I'll be back one day.

Has little to do with patience - more to do with not knowing about the car you've bought tongue out

Don't be a pansy - get some gaffer tape and stick the indicator back in. That's what everyone else does until they can get a replacement...

Nathan I know the car well....and have had TVRs in the past so I know all about this sorta stuff. I'm sure you wouldn't think I'd buy an expensive car without doing the research. Patience runs out. And it doesn't pay the bills.

Seems a bit of an overreaction. A lost indicator is not going to hinder your journey too much. Gaffer it up & then visit your stealer to get it fixed on the spot.

You ain't going to get much fun in a porker. I was in a 997 last weekend & good as they are I'd take the Elise over it any day.

Plus everyone on the road will think you're a t*sser wink

Where's the fun in something that has no character! It would be like a woman that doesn't moan - A bit bland?
I have tried Jap cars, Nazi wagons and loads of Brit cars - I couldn't say that any were any better than my Lotus ( and that is having run it for 7 years or so).

I know exactly how you feel, i had the same thought this morning but that hasnt stopped me looking out of the office window at my car half a dozen times since and thinking "wow". I dont think there is a German car out there that would have the same affect.

If it's under warranty, no worries. It will probably happen again though, because it's down to the gap being the wrong size as I understand it. I've used this fix with a bungee cord and it works well:

It does take the piss when you have to do this with a car worth that much, although when the sun comes out and the roads dry out you'll forget it all...

I've owned 10 or so German car's

Audi TT, Bmw's while they might have fantastic build quality I wouldn't trade my Exige for one no matter what, you must be mad!

I've had a far worst thing's than that go wrong with my previous Elise R, get them resolved and enjoy the Car

Well I remember taking a test drive in my German (1986) Ur quattro turbo down a country lane near Guildford (with friend in back and dealer PAX) .... oil pipe came off, sprayed all down the road and tyres. yikes I was see-sawing down the road in a 4WD car that shouldn't have been behaving like that. Very exciting. silly

Anyway, brought it to a non-panel damaging stop and looked underneath to see the offending article. Dealer promised to fix it, I still bought it and loved it for 4 years. driving

I take that as good grounding for the mere "nuances" of a Lotus. rofl

I stopped drinking wine because it made me fall over. Oh, hang on....

You're £30,000 gets you a car that handles and moves and communicates and just goes like hardly anything else and is immensely rewarding to drive through it's natural habitat - the moneys been spent on that and a bit of R&D for the next model - other than that you'll have minor gripes now and again, same as any car, but in my opinion these are more than outweighed by the rewards. Depends where your priorities are and how deep your pockets are I guess.
