Electrical advise needed

Looking for possible suggestions here please...
Driving the car on Saturday and it pretty much died on me; idle became erratic, driver's window wouldn't go up, MIL appeared (despite MIL eliminator!), lights failed (handy with it being night-time!)...all symptoms of a dying battery. Sure enough the car wouldn't start again once it conked out.
However, last weekend battery was fully charged via my Accumate, and two weeks ago I had the alternator checked as the battery light did appear momentarily prior to it being checked. Both the battery and alternator were reported as being very good. Is the only possible explanation that there is an earthing problem or deeper wiring fault? All wiring connections seem good to me.
Result of Saturday's breakdown was a recovery flatbed taking it all the way to my preferred specialist...they are going to look over it again but just wanted to know whether any of you have any suggestions?
