I'm am extremely tempted to purchase an Exige S. Would be one of the early 220bhp cars - which seem to be around the £30k mark now for a good colour and spec?? (after orange with a/c etc).

My only concern is how quickly are prices going to drop away on them - Lotus seem to be bringing out a new variant every month - 220bhp, then performance pack, now 260bhp - next week who knows what... do people think the early cars are due a big drop anytime soon due to these multiple improved variants now being on offer? Obviously don't mind gradual depreciation but don't want to lose my shirt overnight!

The 240, 255, 260PS cars have always been around, very limited edition, by Lotus Sport, not your normal forecourt cars.

I'm in the same mindset as you. I'm watching the market very closely.

Sold my July 06 car back in March 07 for £30,000. It was starlight black, 3,000 miles, a/c and sports pack. It would now be worth c £24,500. Your budget for an early car (they started in March/April 06 I think) therefore looks more than enough.

Blimey - think the cheapest one on Autotrader is £27k (horrible blue colour, no AC) with most around £30k mark, all 06 cars. Do you really think they can be had for £25 / £26k? That would be great value for money.

If you wait for the right deal and haggle, then yes for an early '06 car.

That was the only thing that put me off the new Exige was the depreciation, I had 40k burning a hole in my pocket back in 2006 at the time,it was a toss up between a brand new Exige or a used TVR so I went for a used Sagaris with 5,000 on the clock, it's still worth the same now what I paid for it nearly 16 months ago.

Based on the 50% rule, my car in June 2006 (£38,000), should be worth £19,000 in June 2009, therefore £25,000 to £26,000 seems neither unreasonable nor unrealistic.

The moral of the story is that these cars are worth what someone is prepared to pay. There are quite a few of them around, but in many cases the sellers are pitching their prices too high... hence they dont shift. Trouble is, every month it hasn't sold, its dropped another 300-500 quid in price!

So as Skyman says an early S should deal at around 25,000 (the same price as a spanking Elise S strangely enough).

Oh and going by the same rules... ur 2 year old car will drop 5k over the next year, whereas if you buy a brand new S.... you'd lose double that in its first year and another 10 in the next two. But then... you could always buy a house, you can't lose money in bricks and mortar rolleyes

You'd have no trouble selling a Saggy - one of the most desirable TVRs and hold their value exceptionally well yes

I'd love to be able to buy an Exige S with 3K on it for 24.5, you'd pay that for a N/A

The point (which you miss) being that in Mar07 my car had 3,000 miles on it. I would not expect said car to have that same mileage now!banghead My original July 06 car, priced now, with say 10,000 on the clock = £24,500 to £26,000.

I think all the ph prices are a bit steep, you would think they would price them to sell for club members. I sold my 06 exige s with sport pack, 6000 miles, lifestyle colour and 8k of mods for 28k a year ago, people were giving me offers of 23-26k at the time. I can't believe there are actually na's up for more than 23k.

Me neither. But then someone apparently thinks £17k is a reasonable price these days for a 111S.

Just had a mail from a friend of mine; his mate's looking for an S (in white preferably) and can't find anything below the 30k mark.

In a year or so mine (06, 10k miles with aircon/traction control/touring pack) will be worth low 20's I'd imagine. A lot has to do with the market at the time, too. You're certainly not going to be seeing used S' at dealers for less than high 20's anytime soon though.
