Thought I'd share my foolishness with you all in the hope that it will avoid you suffering the same fate - I have established, by running out of petrol on a busy dual carriageway, that

- the TRUE, ie usable, fuel capacity of the Europa tank is 36 litres
- when all of the 'blobs' have gone, you only have about 20 miles left

Doh!

Hopefully this info will be useful to all you other Europa drivers out there (both of you)

Cheers

Jerry

It doesn't matter whether its a Europa, an Elise, or an Exige.... they all do that!

I'm convinced it has a 36 litre tank like an Elise Exige, not the 45 litres it says in the handbook

The Tank is the same size as an Elise / Exige! 36L. My last fill up was 29.78L and the fule guage only has 2-3 bars left...

Sorry but I put 40,5 liters in my elise 111r while the lines were all gone and I was sweating at 20 kph to arrive at the gas station from the track.
Also I did not spill one drop out of the tank biggrin

I'm with you on that Benoit.... I got around 40.5 in the tank of my R last June at Spa.... coming thru Stavelot, I thought "just one more lap eh" I felt the stutter or fuel starvation and had to crawl back to town with fingers crossed as the circuit fuel station wasn't open!

However, I believe the stated measurement is the size of the fuel tank, you should be able to cram a couple of litres in the fuel filler pipe too. I believe the tank size was 36 ltrs for the skinny S1s, which they had to increase to 40ltrs for the lardy VXs, S2s and Europas to compensate for the dramatically worse fuel consumption......

runs to take cover after drifting inadvertantly into another S1/S2/VX thread biggrin

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I thought the capacity of the Europa tank was 45 litres, but never got more than 35'ish in the tank

Whats the deal here ?

Its not 45 litres, thats for certain. I'm not sure how much it does hold mind you!!

I just fill mine when its empty, don't really care how much it takes and don't take any notice as I don't pay for the petrol. But I would reckon it holds about 30-35 litres. I can normally (safely) stretch about 225 miles out of tank.

It's definitely just 36 ltr, as my hand book indicates.

Also, when the digital bars have disappeared from the gauge, you have about a teaspoonful left!

I had a stutter entering the fuel station - 37.5 litres including brimming it to the top of the filler neck.

Phew....

So twit, blackrex and redlake are also Europa owners ?

Amazing, I'd almost begun to think I must be the only one !!

I'm sure I've seen it in the marketing blurb that its 45 litres ?

Actually just googled it and its coming out at 43.5 litres.

What gives - did they change the spec at the last minute - or now just use Elise tanks ?

Any of you guys got decent sound out of the built in speakers ??

Cheers

Lotus quotes the tank size as 43.5 litres. But then they add "usable volume: 36 litres" to that figure afterwards. What exactly is the difference? Is Lotus trying it on? Would someone from Lotus please explain the point of a fuel tank of 43.5 litre capacity with a usable volume of just 36 liters?

Ah, but has anyone actually checked to see if the Garage fuel pumps actually deliver what they say they deliver ?

Yes.... trading standards do this from time to time, I believe.

Rog

change the fronts for a pair of decent Pioneere, change the rears for some 6" Co axial Focal Polyglass with cross overs and solid mounts and you are getting somethwere close. Also change the head unit for a decent Blaupunt. I am now in the process of putting an amp behind the passenger seat and a pair of Focal Utopia 5" subs in an enclosure in the footwell. If you want to save some money there is lots of decent stuff second hand on ebay or some of the other ice sites.

cheers

After all the bad reviews saying it wasn't a terribly good GT car I guess Lotus just thought **** it... and put in the Elise/Exige fuel tank biggrin

I doubt it...Lotus's development programme moves far too slowly for that wink

Anyway, the VX220 Turbo also has the 35/36 litre tank so was the logical choice.

Yes. Nightfall blue with lux pack. Photos in Seloc, my user name is black rex there.

I wish it was 43, driving in London, I can only get 160 miles out a tank! Rediculous. Haven't yet got the cahnce to do a long motorway trip, but how many miles you guys get from a tank if purely running on motorway? I have the 225 upgrade too, does this make the car more thirsty?

Mine is titanium with the lux pack and 225, not got round to any pics yet!

I'm not sure the 225 upgrade makes a huge difference to consumption, main issue is that its just a small tank. Luckily I don't do a lot of city driving so 200 plus (just) is attainable from a tank...
