Isn't this just a fail safe...fuse blown, so rather than allow the car to overheat, it just comes on all the time?

Billy,

Yes, would be nice if right....I know I have experienced this type of fail safe before.

You can check the fuse, see if it has blown....here's a link, seems to be number 12 and at

Is at least cheap and easy to check!

Hi

Sorry to be a kill joy but this sounds like the problem I had with my S1 111s.

Does the fan come on for no reason even when the car is cold?

Do you find the idle speed is also irratic - sometimes fine but sometimes at around 1300rpm?

Is the throttle response sometimes jerky - do the revs take a while to drop (when the engine had been reving at speed)even when the car is out of gear and the throttle isn't being pressed?

I changed both the temp sensors and even the missfire detection unit (due to a separate problem)trying to cure the problems without success.

The car has now had a new engine wiring loom and its a totally different car, fan comes on only when needed, idle is perfect, idle control valve operates perfectly etc etc.

S1 111s have an engine loom problem, the quality of the wiring is crap and different to standard k-series cars, the looms break up and cause the problems mentioned above.

If it is the loom, budget £400-£500 for a new loom and fitting. If your a member on Seloc you can get a loom from B&C at a good price.

hi jez jes thats almost exactly the symptoms i get. only diferance is the fans are on all the time they do not come on and off at will they are on as soon as the engine fires up .Could i fit the wiring loom myself ie is it just as simple as one off one on ?

I dont see why you cant fit yourself, bit of a pig to do with the clam on (did mine with the clam off as the engine was being changed)

Pretty much plug and play.
