S1 - Toyota engine

You'd need to put the different subframe on which also has longer rear dampers. I'd guess its possible... but there'd be a lot of a bodging and custom work involved. Would work out more expensive than putting a Honda in I reckon..
Yes, & then you'd end up with an engine that is heavier & peakier than the Honda option - why would you want to do that? Edited by NathanE on Tuesday 11th March 19:37

I think it's a cool idea. If you prefer the looks of the Mk1, which many do, and you want a peaky engine, which I do at least, then a 111r engine would do the trick nicely. I've driven a few and they are a cracking engine for an elise. On something heavier (like a celica) it must feel a bit silly but in an elise it's huge fun.
I just don't know who'd do it for you, whereas you have options going the honda route. One claims that no chassis surgery is required to fit the type-r engine. Not quite sure how, but that sounds impressive. I don't think it's as smooth as the toyota/yamaha but it's a famously good and strong engine.

post's like this are just scary, so many words, so little knowledge...I just don't know who'd do it for you, whereas you have options going the honda route. And, for the record, Honda install requires NO CHASSIS modifications at all (or sub-frame before you assume)
please enlighten me o sage ones.
if the phrase 'cool idea' upsets you, you must be one of those tragic people that spends their spare time writing to complain about adverts.
I got into cars and I like lotuses because they are cool and driving them is fun.
What exactly are you two funbags into it for?
Maths?
"he should be thinking technically practical and financially viable"
oh dear... please tell me you're being sarchastic

Best thing i've even seen is a 111r with series one front and rear clams and sills.
even better someone did the same but put an s1 exige body on it.
you wouldn't of worked it out just by looking....
just had an approximate price up at work and you're looking at about £14K+ vat for the body conversion and then you've got to make it fit and then paint it. Good times.

I think the point is that you are basically posting stuff without having the remotest clue what's involved.if the phrase 'cool idea' upsets you, you must be one of those tragic people that spends their spare time writing to complain about adverts.

May I suggest you might want to brouse some exssting threads? this has been covered many times before....
Then may I suggest you post that instead of your b
hy little comments if you're going to quote me in future.
As for your 'Grange hill' sidekick 'scuffers' chipping in, I think he did his credibility more damage than anything I could write with his post.
I said that some people prefer the S1 styling. Nothing too controversial there. I said that I like peaky engines in a light car. I feel entitled to that opinion. I also reported that I had heard the honda engine can be fitted without modification. I find this surprising but in no way dismissed the possibility. Having driven several Toyota powered Elises and owned a Honda S2000 I stand by my view that the Toyota is the smoother unit. My overall point was that the original poster was likely to be better off going the Honda route.
So I am at a complete loss as to what you objected to or are defending so strongly?

But what has that got to do with it ? So I am at a complete loss as to what you objected to or are defending so strongly?

You do realize that the engine in the S2000 is a completely different one from the K20 that is swapped into the Elise ?? Seems like you don't

By just opening the hood on your s2000 it would make you realize that engine would never fit into an Elise (hint, note how the engine is mounted
