I've just about had it with 'Scuffers' and his know-all attitude. I get the impression I'm not the only person he's been rude to for no apparent reason on this forum. It says on Maidstone sports cars website 'friendly professional advice'. That's plain funny.

And I'm really getting bored of the pro-honda engined nazis on here. Frankenstein I say.

So now to put money where mouths are.

Brands Hatch tomorrow. Your honda lotus versus my k-series lotus.

If you can even keep up I'll pay for your trackday.

Sounds fair?

This must be some sort of trolling?

Regardless, I don't mind Scuffers 'blunt' approach. He's helped me through Seloc on occassion. Given some of the rubbish posted here and elsewhere then I can perhaps understand Scuffers and others getting frustrated occasionally. (Incidently I have no axe to grind and in a recent thread (When did you fall in love with your Elise?) he almost came across as humanwink

I'll take you both on in my vauxhall powered Lotus, tomorrow at Brands.

The two of you need some engineering lessons.

It's time to put up Stuffers and Pizzaman.

Scuffers can be a gruff old sod I admit, but he is actually very helpful and always freely give help and advise. Perhaps not so much on here, but mainly on Seloc.

Regards your kind offer for tomorrow, I'd suggest that if you do come across a Honda powered Elise, it could be an expensive day for yousmile

Scuffers may be blunt and (occasionally) downright rude, but the bloke knows his stuff. Like anyone he does have his axes to grind and he has his opinions which may or may not be different to your own.

Personally I've never found him to be anything other than completely helpful and he's never slow to tell me when I'm being a bit of a twit. But I know enough to take his advice on board, even if I decide not to heed it.... much like I do with anyone knowledgeable.

In the end, he (and a few others in Lotus circles) do tend to rub some others up the wrong way, but it's just a matter of knowing this then avoiding those who do. Simple really smile

A ridiculous post, which deserves nothing but ridiculous responses. If you don't like what anyone has to say, then either debate it maturely or not at all.

This an entertaining thread. Totally unnecessary stirring by "The Pits". Oddly enough I don't see an elise variant on the original posters car list. Perhaps his "k-engined" car to which he refers is his caterham?

Scuffers has been a huge resource for matters lotus related for about as long as these forums have existed. His knowledge of the elise including the k series engine is about as good as anyone out there. He developed the most popular honda conversion kit.

The reality is that scuffers does sometimes get quite abrupt. He gets 50+ emails / U2U's every day asking advice - usually the same stuff he has answered countless times before. I am sure it gets a little frustrating. Virtually all the comments he makes are based on a wealth of personal experience few others can match.

I would only make the following observations from personal experience - he has helped me with advice or directly more times than I can recall. He has saved me a huge amount of money by discouraging me from making unnecessary mods to my car. He has yet to give me a piece of bad advice. I have watched hime spend several trackdays doing nothing but provide hands on help to others who have had problems.

Technical expertise is not as easy to come by on PH lotus forum as perhaps on other forums and I am inclined to laugh it off when scuffers gets mildly annoyed when I ask him some banal question that he has already answered several times that week.

Forums are not real life - just about everyone I have met through a common lotus interest I have liked immensely. We all need to relax and not take the online things quite so seriously.

I have only been tracking and racing an Elise for a short period compared to Gruffers but can empathise as I also become frustrated when trying to share factual (data & experience) based findings which are then challenged with uninformed or refactored internet opinion.

PS Simon doesn’t work for MSC they are one of the organisations who install the Linkup kits he designed. Maybe a little more research required to put together a quality troll.

PPS I run a VVC not Honda so have no vested interest.

I agree with all that's already been said!

Simon often gets taken the wrong way, his advice has helped me and others. He's also changed my opinion on certain topic's to my own benefit. As for you challenging him on track have you actually seen him drive? Don't make me laugh!

As he said if your serious why not enter the Trophy?

Aww did little Pitsy throw his toys out the pram.

Now there is a vast difference between decking out an Elise for road and creating a race winning car. As for a track day race, I think most people here would laugh at you pissing comp. The forum is a debating forum, if you are unable to debate properly then dont get involved in a debate. If you loose a debate then it is not a case of "my Dads bigger than your Dad", learn from it and come back a little wiser. Oh, and track days are not for racing - that is frowned upon. If you want a race then sign up for some racing.

If it a choice of who is welcome here then the expertise that is brought by Scuffers to these forums is priceless, I have yet to see a valuable post by the Pits. I am not saying who should leave, not my place, I realise that, why doesnt Pits?

I have learnt the hard way that Scuffers knows every nook and cranny of the Liz and he has spent so much time with the car, I would bet he knows it better than most of the engineers and designers who made the thing.

In fact, I like The Pits, he makes me laugh

Scuffers is cool, if you don't make daft comments on technical issues he will not bite you.
There are some who are know it alls and there are some who actually do know it.

I'm not sure that settling some kind of "forum grudge match" is entirely in keeping with the "social, non-competitive" spirit under which most UK track-days are run.

However, if the idea comes off.. maybe it'd be useful to run it at lunchtime, so the rest of us can watch with our popcorn!
