Test drove a 111s yesterday, nice car, but had bizarre rev cut out at sub 6k, circa 5.7k I'd say, long test drive & still did it in every gear (bar top, not enough road left) was just like hitting a normal limiter but obviously this was a lot too early. Diddnt feel partically full of urge before hitting the limiter either?

Owner had it a little while & never noticed it.... hmmm anyway leaving that odd thought aside for a moment, whats the thoughts on what it is, gotta be vvc gubbins related? It did have correct 111s ecu as I checked just in case it had a boggo S1 on or something & had good check over anything else obvious.

Mine's done it before (exactly the same, 5.7k rpm). I reset the ECU by switching ignition to Position 2 and pumping the accelerator several times all the way to the floor and then switching off again. Since doing that, its been fine. Worth a check.

You should get to 7,2000 through the gears and 7,000 continuous, iirc.

Mine cuts out at 7400, I know because that's what it revved to on a rolling road, produced 153BHP at 7200 smile

This happened on my S2 111S - turned out to be a faulty thermostat (discovered after replacing various coolant sensors to see if that helped). The faulty unit caused the ECU to go in to sort of 'safe mode' and wouldn't allow the car to rev higher than approx 5,700rpm, even when fully warm.

Might be worth a check?

Lizard, after our conversation the other day, this sort of makes sense,,,only thing I can't quite get my head round would be why limp mode on the Ecu would be as high as 5700 rpm???.
Hardly limping is it and damage could still be done rolleyes

Anyone ever had problems with the VVC parts on the K series restricting max bhp being reached?...Price of ECU if it won't re-set???

I am also looking for an S1, so need to gen up smile

Lotus K4 EU3 VVC ECU Error Logic (thats an S2, probably similar for an S1)

ECT Sensor Error Limits to 6K RPM
MAP Sensor Error Limits to 6K RPM
TPS Sensor Error Limits to 6K RPM
Cam Sensor Error Limits to 5K RPM
