Can anyone help in advice on improving the sound in the new Europa ?

Its just a bit tinny and lacking in low-end for me.

I've also some extremely delicate ears that give me bad headaches if the sound is not 'perfect' - no honest.

Even my wifes very nice Saab 93 sends my head spinning when she cranks up the volume.

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers
Rog.

I don't know how the Europa's speakers relate to the S2 Elise, but this thread might be of interest to you: http://forums.seloc.org/viewthread.php?tid=157883&...

Roger

I have change front and rear speakers and head unit and the sound is miles better although still not SQ quality.

The front speakers are poor. You can get some Pioneers as a direct replacement and they are much better (~£50). For the rear I took the 5" out and make the holes a bit bigger to fit 6" Focal Polygalss co axial with the tweeter mounted high and the cross over behind the panel. The Focals are expensive but I am sure you can get a decent 6" without going too expensive, check second hand sites for good bargans. For the head unit I put in a decent Blaupunt which again made a difference but is expensive.

A lot of poeple rate the Infitity speakers but they always sound bright to me which is the last thing you want in a aluminium chassis car.

I am now playing with putting a sub in the footwell with an Genesis P1 amp behind the passenger seat. This is probably a bit OTT but keeps me off the streets.

cheers

Christian

ps if you are going for the bigger rear speakers let me know and I will give you some installation details.

Christian (c43 I Assume?),

I have removed the rear trim panel in my elise this weekend. There is a LOT more space behind the seats than the trim gives you credit for.

I plan to run without it now, lose the rear speakers, and I may put an amp in the space and a sub. It will be a lot easier doing this without worrying about putting the trim back in, so I'll make up some sort of fabric cover to come down over the lot to hide it from prying eyes.

OP,

I recently installed a pioneer p88rs. It transformed the soundstage/ SQ in my elise. It is slightly underpowered if your car is very loud. I am going to add some foam behind my head to quieten down the engine a little, but I guess a hurricane and 421 and sports exhaust is a BAD place to start if I want a quieter cabin. D'oh! I think that with efficient speakers and a car slightly quieter than mine, you can easy run with the onboard amp on the 88rs. When stationary the sound is fantastic.

I have exactly the same problem as you with 'hurting ears'. I almost feel like you must be some kind of soul brother I never knew I had! I've talked about this to loads of people, but no-one I have ever talked to has to run away from alba stereos clipping to the max in pain, they just say 'sounds alright'. Often in clubs, if they have rubbish systems (or systems that are literally too loud, VALVE etc..) I just can't be there and have to leave.

FWIW I have installed some new high quality 4" speakers in stock location, hyrbid legatia 4's, and some tweeters in the dashboard. These are run actively off the HU, but I plan to run both mids+tweets off an amp to give them more headroom as I'm on the limit of the p88rs's internal amp. I desperately need a sub now to fill out the bottom two octaves, as without the sub I'm hurting my ears as I have nothing to 'pin' the bottom end down with. I'm certain that when I get a cleanly powered sub in there all fatigue will evaporate from the system, it shows great promise.

Hi Stuthemong

be interesting to see how your approach to sub mounting sounds as I imagine you have a bit more space to play around with. I am going to try putting a sub box in the passenger footwell with the Focal 5WS sub. I can get my Genesis P1 amp behind the passenger seat low dow so this intall will fit, it is just a case if it will work. I agree the bottom end is key i.e. 30 - 60Hz as it is difficult to put in and easily drowned by background car noise.

good luck
