If there is standing water they will be interesting but predictable, otherwise they work once they get temperature in them, just remember it takes a lot longer to get temps up in the wet, sometimes worth dropping the pressures a couple of lbs more so they get hotter faster.

Yep, once warm they are really rather good in the wet so long as they're not low on tread.

When cold, even on the road they can be a handful if you need to brake suddenly.

thanks for the replies so far, I must admit I've had a couple of hairy moments on the road, was just wondering if it was any different on the track

May I suggest to really wait for them to be hot?

This happened at the end of the first lap under rain while driving at 110 kph where I use to be at 140 kph....

Take care

Take it easy and build up your speed like any other day and you will be fine for every damaged Elise on 48's I'm sure there are hundreds that have survived.

If the rain is particulary heavy and you get standing water I would suggest sitting it out tbh, bare in mind on road tyres the Elise can aqua plain in standing water its just with 48's the risk is higher.

you wont need 48's to stack in on a wet trackday ! be sensible. not jolting gear changes and hard floored corners ! take it smoothly and you'll enjoy yourself. take the piss and it will bite your ass !

It was a write off.
I already used the a048 under the rain and they are not bad. The problem is to reach the working temp.
I woud not recommend them on the wet anyway.
The crash was MY fault (driving error) with circonstances explaining rationnaly my mistake

I've Toyo R888s on my Exige, does anyone have any bad experiences with these in the wet? I picked the car up today, and have driven around 200 miles in varying conditions but I was driving like a complete girl. wink

I have R888's on my Exige; they're not bad in the wet actually.

Many other R888 tyred drivers (not just lotuses) have said to me that on standing water they're dodgy; by the very nature they just simply can't clear enough water, however, in just damp/wet condition I didn't find them any worse than regular tyres. I must admit I am still getting used to them 3 months into ownership though and am more scared than confident at the moment (the better way to be IMO hehe)

They certainly aren't like driving on ice though, that's for sure.

Thanks Tony - btw were you on the M25 today? I saw a white Exige heading Westbound around 16:00, can't remember the Junction but was between the M11 and A1.

Yup, it wasn't my first choice, but it's really growing on me. I was like a child on Christmas Eve last night, I didn't get an hours sleep - so glad I went for the Exige in the end. But I tell you, when you get something like that, you wonder quite where our road tax goes - the roads are complete ste! rolleyes

I'd suggest getting some tuition as early in the day as possible, regardless of the weather. As others have suggested, take it very easy to start with and build your speed slowly. Don't worry about how fast anybody else is going - pull over on the straights and let them past, its not a race.
I did my first day in November and must have spun half a dozen times! On my second day it was raining all day and there was a lot of standing water on the track. After a few spins in the morning I managed to stay on track in the afternoon. On my third day I was starting to get on the pace, certainly starting to overtake quiet a lot of cars, and I didn't spin once. I enjoyed myself on all three days which is what I went for. Are you going with LoT? Worth joining them, great days and great people.

Don't forget to take some oil, you need to check the level between sessions. Keep an eye on your coolant too. I take a small bag of tools with me, you never know.
Some fluids for the driver are a good idea. I always keep a bottle of water in the tool bag. And I always take an extra packet of fags!!

I forget to mention that plenty were running on OA48s on the wet day I did. Don't forget that the Elisetrophy racers were on them at Brands last weekend too!
