I doubt you'll get one for that price. You certainly wouldn't now, in 2009, who knows, but I still doubt it.

Reliability is pretty good, A048s are quite pricey, but so are the alternatives. You'll go through brake pads pretty quickly too.

Start saving though if you really want one.

Hello again Dizeee. My 2004 Exige was £21950, 22k on the clock, 2 owners and touring pack. I bought through a Lotus dealer with 3 month warranty, full service (new discs and pads), MOT and six months tax. I'm sure you'll find a similar car in 2009 for around £20k, especially if this supposed recession hits hard. biggrin

Oh yes, i'm averaging between 30 and 35 mpg - half urban, half motorway (using 6th gear) with a very heavy right foot. wink

Dizee,

Remember the cars advertised on PH generally tend to be 1-1.5k overpriced.

I think 20k should see you in a nice S2 Exige MY05

I've currently got an '04 Exige with lots of tweaks and twiddles. I wouldn't part with it for less than £22K+

Thats what it's worth to me. Maybe I'm delusional but thats what I would hope to get for a mint, hi-spec, low mileage Exige.

(not that it's for sale right now anyway!)

Having driven S1 and S2, although never owned, they are sorted cars. I drove an S2 that the factory lent me, did about 600 miles over less than a week and ragged it, it was a company car and had been used as a test car, press car and demonstrator so it was hardly driven gently and it seemed to lap it up!

Prices seem to hold well on them but lotus are not as expensive to run as people make out. Certainly my 3 esprits were not too bad at all. S2 is pretty well bolted together and the toyota engine is a gem, even as stock its a good engine but Lotus have transformed it into something that feels totally alive.

Super little car, punches way, way above its weight and so much fun to drive. O found the non-supercharged one a tad lacking in mid range power, but thats just my taste. Go drve one though and see what you think.

On my list for my next toy.

Not so sure about that, but there are always exceptions. wink

If you can get an Exige for 22k from a dealer... I'm sure there's scope to get one privately for 20k. What do you think the dealer paid for his? With 06 Exige S prices now in 26-27k territory an 04 (maybe an 05) Exige should be around 20k. Otherwise, you may as well bite the bullet and get a newer S.

I'm sure that in a year's time.... you will be able to access S2 Exiges second hand in the 18-19k area if thats your budget. But... tyres dont last long and they aint cheap and while servicing isn't a major outlay for an Exige, many people get the upgrade bug, so that can mean further addtional (albeit optional) outlay. As long as you have a bit of extra cash put away for a rainy day, with ur budget I can't see it being a problem

This tally's with what I picked up my 9k mile 54 plate for over the winter. And if anything I'd expect it to fetch marginally more now the sun has started to shine.

(again, not that it's for sale!)

Very dependant on spec. I just paid more than what your all saying for a 54 plate 12k car, but it was a very desirable colour/spec with interesting history.
Do I now think it was over priced? No, because people were literaly queing to buy it, and I've since been offered more than I paid for it!

You may as well ask your Mother for an indication on market values than ask pistonheads, as people who want to buy tend to talk the market down and people who want to sell tend to talk the market up!

IMHO

Rpm.

ps, also not looking to sell (unless the price was right) wink

Dizzieee,

Agree with most of the guys comments.

I'll be selling my 05 plate S2 Exige in May after I get back from holiday if you're still looking. I will post the advert, but here's the heads up on it.

It's an April 05 car in Storm Titanium with air con. performance pack which includes sports seats & Safety Devices harness (still has lap & diagonal belts too), Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB digital stereo, soft top conversion (but roof already sold seperately), factory stage 1 exhaust, armafend, central locking, black alloys, good A048R's all round, full Lotus service history, LE05XGE plate including in sale, all bills, both key fobs etc. etc.

When it goes up I'll put it up at just over 20k, but 20k would be my minimum I'd accept.

Unless your car has done silly miles, that is plain crazy. You'd probably get offered more than £20k for it from a main dealer. Hell, if I had seen the same for sale two weeks ago (and I did my research), I would have parted with £24k for such a machine...!

I would agree, maybe a dealer wouldnt give you 20k on it's own, but you would get 22-24 private all day long. That Sir is a well specced car.

There are always exceptions, and usually for good reason! wink I know of one Exige S that was sold quickly for £23k, but that hasn't meant all Exige S are suddenly £5-10k cheaper. If this were the case, car depreciation would make most models worthless within weeks! biggrin
