4 days to go before I pick up my Exige. Its taken me 6 months to find the right one, in the right colour, at the right price.

And today, whilst prepping it for collection...

they have dropped it backwards off a 6 foot ramp.

Gutted is an understatement.

I've been told it only needs a new rear clam. Frankly I find that hard to believe. I'm not going ahead with the deal. Totally gutted though as it took me so long to find one that ticked all the right boxes and I'm picky!

Sorry to hear about it.

There will be another one, best not taking the risk if its fallen six feet.

You must be gutted though.

That happened to a guy in the USA as well. Normally happens they're lazy when taking the front wheels off. As you have to take the rear undertray off to support the rear of the car which would otherwise topple over.

IIRC the USA guy's car was a write off. Clam destroyred, rear subframe bent and a hole in the chassis floor near the passenger foot well.

Must be a total PITA frown

You're right to skip this one. Any car, let alone a Lotus, dropped 6' on it's ass is not going to be a good option. Bad luck, keep looking!

Well if it fell two metres, that's about six and a half mph when it hit the ground. I guess it'll depend on what angle it hit the floor at, but a 6mph impact followed by a consistent 900kg force, should not really write off a car.

Since you're under no obligation to buy it, there's no point in risking it though.

Certainly agree I'd not go through with the deal.

Question is, once fixed, would a potential purchaser know it was repaired...?

Sorry to hear that Shnozz. Probably recommend what most others would, however may be worth giving it a visual first.

after wasting 5 hours of my life and £100 in fuel going to test drive the car, frankly I CBA to do a visual on it now its been smashed. I think i would be a fool to proceed knowing what I do now to be honest. Problem is that it was a good price, and I refuse to pay the money asked by private sellers for an NA Exige when S prices are on their way down. I see the NA prices being pushed down further so think I'll take a step back and possibly look elsewhere for a new weekend toy, or at least until the Exige NA falls to what I consider reasonable. This was sensible money, from a dealer with a warranty. It was considerably lower than some of the private sellers are trying to sell their cars for.

Depends how well they do the job but I suspect they wont and it'll be passed through an auction and back up for sale soon enough. Knowing my car buying luck I'll end up buying it from another dealer with £5k added on the price rofl

You must come over for beers and BBQ when the sun comes out to play. You can bring that reprobate 'Bert with you if you're passing his gaff.

That's not good, at least they let you know and didn't use other delaying tactics.

Is it worth getting them to pay for an inspection by someone you trust? Be a shame to lose out on a good car.
