Yawn - another S2 suspension thread
Discussion
OK, I have recently bought a 97 S1 with red Konis. They will be replaced very soon.
The car is driven almost daily and needs to be reasonably comfortable. However, I do about 10 track days per year on a mix of circuits including Donington, Rockingham, Spa & the Ring, so it needs to be reasonably competent on track too.
I don't want an out and out track car, so had planned not to go with Nitrons and just go with the S2 suspension instead as it seems like a very good compromise for the money.
Will I just end up upgrading twice?
Cheers
Tom.

IMHO yes, you will end up upgrading twice... I wouldn't do it it if I were you.
I had S2 suspension on mine and it rolled very badly on a twisty track and didn't feel planted enough. Sure, it was great on the road and still good fun on the track but if you are doing 10 track days you must be reaosnable driver and as such you'll get fed up and want to upgrade.
If you don't want the full adjustable Nitron's, why not try the new Racing Reds? You'll get height adjustment with fixed damping and probably slightly stiffer springs...
FWIW I went from (very tired and leaking) S1 Red Koni's to S1 LSS to S2 Bilsteins and back to S1 LSS.... It's down to cost with me, I can't justify spending out on new dampers so these changes ultimately haven't cost me anymore than the initial outlay of £300 when I got the first LSS set. For me, the S1 LSS in good condition are WAY better than the S2 set up... (If you do road/track driving)

I thought the S2 ran the same spring rates as S1 LSS? Presumably it's then just a matter of setting the dampers correctly.
Might be worth giving Plans Motorsport near Guildford a call if you want someone else to do the work for you. They're superb and can advise on track/road mods depending on your useage.

That's just what Lotus intended with these, for the road and the person that does more than just a couple of trackdays but not going too extreme http://pistonheads.com/sales/434284.htmTry the new Nitron branded racing red dampers at £600 instead?
