It had to happen, still less than 1000 miles, and going down a multi-storey a big scrapping noise was heard.

Thought nothing of it, but got home and no front number plate.

Guess will have to get new one from Halfords (or t'internet supplier) - although have been promised a free one from someone in the trade.

The existing one was held on with sticky pads - any advice on fitting the new one ?

I must admit the original did seem a tad low, mounted exactly in the middle rather than a little higher so it won't scrape the ground.

I've heard it said, if I mount too high the radiator won't get enough air in and will boil in traffic - any truth in that ?

PS its a Europa S, so I guess not much experience of that - but I think its a standard Lotus issue ???

get a 3/4 sized number plate from gtgrafix.com or fancyplates.com - it will have a legal font and not look too out of place...mount it up flush with the bottom of the clam - problem solved - thats how Ive had mine for 6 years no probs

I have mine a little lower than the clam, rather the plate than the clam.

Velcro and a 3/4 plate. Velcro saved me the other week when I had my full sized plate on, going in to Christopher Neil, there's a nasty dip/hole I'd forgotten about, half pulled my plate off on it - if it'd been screwed on, I hate to think of the damage.

A multi-storey and much lower ride height finally did for one of my front plates. Unfortunately it also broke the the mounting plinth so that and the spare plate are in the boot Officerwink

I seem to remember a while back there was some sort of 'winglet' protector too... I think it was at Elise parts or somewhere but I cant find it... Ive just imported my car to Australia, number plate is no longer an issue as the plates I have are smaller. Im now worried about scraping the clam as they have bigger kurbs out here.. can anyone remember if these actually existed and where they were available from??

http://www.fancyplates.com/

Assuming you have a seven character plate, the smallest size you can get away with legally is 460 x 101
