apologies in advance if this has been asked before but was wondering about a hurricane air induction kit for my recently purchased S2 111S is there any performance or torque gains or is it basically just a different sound gain, car currently has a k&n which sounds good but seems to get some bad press. Also how long does it take to get used to the brakes ? thank you.

I supsect you will have practically zero gain in hp or torque and wouldnt discern it even if you got something on paper.

Believe it or not the K&N has been tested on the K series by the MG boys. It actually gave a 7bhp gain!! However that was in rolling road conditions. Stuck inside the engine bay with lots of hot air it may actually decrease bhp. Can't say my car (with K&N) seems any faster or slower than any other S1 Elise. The general consesus on Induction kits is that they may add a little bit but you'll not notice anything other than the noise and maybe a little willingness to rev more freely at the top.
With regards the brakes I'm not quiet sure what you mean. In terms of having to push them harder then that comes pretty quickly. The great advantage of no servo is the great feel that the brakes have which helps when the wheel lock up under heavy braking. If you're only used to brakes fitted with ABS then you need to get out and practice some cadence and (more difficult) threshold braking.

5 BHP tops, not enough to be noticeable, really. However, throttle response is sharper compared to the standard filter assembly. It also feels more consistent, being fed colder air.

As an aside, the cold air pipe fell off the filter assembly yesterday (car was at Sincs so I guess it was disturbed) and it sounded much deeper, to the extent that I wondered if they'd taken it off and put someone else's filter on!

Thanks for the feedback guys think i'll stick with what i've got for the time being. As regards to the brakes another run this morning has got me more confident/used to the set up. On another note entirely can't believe what great response the car gets whereever i go just amazing.

I'm still getting to grips with the brakes on my S1, takes a bit of getting your head round just how far that pedal can travel.
