Ive just took out insurance with Adrian Flux and they have asked me what cat the immobliser is on my 2001 s2. Does anyone know what was fitted as standard? I rang Chris Neils and they said it will be Cat 1. A flux are saying that its not even cat 2! Has anyone had a simlar problem or know where i can get the immobliser verified.
Cheers

It'll probably have the 'Meta M36 T2' which is just an immobiliser and is cat 2. If its got the alarm upgrade then it'll be the M99 T2 which is cat 1.

I had similar discussions with Adrian Flux last week. 2004 111S and was told that standard fit alarm/immobiliser is not listed as Thatcham approved. Explained that it was Cobra alarm fitted by Lotus, rep said must have been as an option then and that was OK. Couldn't be bothered to argue with him!

Interestingly the Thatcham web site includes Lotus within their list of Cat 1 approved manufacture's fitted alarms!

More reasons to consider other brokers for insurance then. If the car has an alarm and immobiliser, then it's Cat1.

All the systems fitted by the factory (during vehicle manufacture) will be Cat 1 at the time of build. The exceptions to this are a very, very small number of cars which had this deleted by the original buyer. (UK market)

If you contact the factory with your chassis number they will be more than happy to send you a replacement installation certificate. Send a COPY of this to your insurance company.

Would agree, did put me off rather. Still not as bad as one broker, who seemed confused when I said the car only had two seats!
