Search is not working so I cannot find the topic I started some time ago on this issue.

As I slowly edge towards the 1000 mile mark and the new world that awaits me beyond 6k rpm my thoughts return to a replacement exhaust. I am struggling between the Lotus Stage 2 and a 2bular. Lotus has the advantage of being fitted (a big plus for me!!) and not having warranty issues as against the 2bular which beats it on price and by all accounts quality of construction and noise.

I really am not very good with a spanner although have in the past changed cans on sportsbikes, so just how hard and time consuming is it to change an exhaust myself? I will also need to buy pretty much all necessary tools so does this automatically remove any price differential?

Perhaps more importantly, has anyone had issues with after market exhausts on a car still within warranty?

Apologies again if this has been done to death.

2bular definitely beats the Lotus offerings on quality of construction and looks and it'll also save you a bucket load of weight. Oh and I wouldn't get overly concerned about the waranty issues... I know of a car with a non-standard back box that had the exhaust manifold replaced under waranty, so it shouldn't cause you too many sleepless nights.

It isn't likely to be awfully difficult to fit it yourself, but there could be a bit of messing around and will doubtless require two pairs of hands. Any exhaust centre would be able to fit it for you... but I'd recommend taking the car along to your local Lotus specialist, who'll be able to sort it for you for a couple of hours labour at the most. Alternatively you main dealer should do it for you too... but its likely to be more expensive than the specialist.

The lotus sports pipes are not great. The build quality is shocking and they weigh a ton. With a stage 2 you wont be able to track the car.

2bular are a product that oozes quality from the materials used to the superior TiG welds, they are light, strong and the noise can be tuned to your requirements. Mine is one of the quiter zorsts so I can track the car and sit on a motorway without it drilling through my skull.

It has also lasted considerably more than the 14 months that the stage one lasted. It had to be scrapped due to poor construction.

I had a stage 2 on my n\a Exige but wouldn't put one on an S, even Lotus don't recommend it. I looked at 2bulular for mine but wasn't convinced they could deliver in the timescale I needed so have ordered a Larini having read the reports form Tony Hetherington on here. The guy I spoke to at Larini was very helpful.

Edit: P.S. dealer is fitting it free as part of the pre-delivery inspection. :-)

My friend has a lotus stage 2 on his exige and it sounds fantastic. The other options don't sound as good on youtube but that's not a fair comparison.

I'm happy with my stage 1 for now but if I was to upgrade I'd be tempted by the quicksilver titanium set up for it's light weightness. They even do a special manifold with equal length primaries which, if you were prepared to get it properly set up, would actually start increasing power and not just noise.

2tublar do a manifold as well. Have heard that the Quicksilver exhaust can be quite boomy at motorway speeds, but if possible I would try and see if you can get a ride in people's cars that have the various different exhaust systems to see which one you like the best. If you do any track days it's a good place to do that. Then you can listen both from the inside and the outside!
