we have a 98 elise and are thinking of upgrading to an exige.I have some questions

Is the "boot" the same size
whats the deal with the tyres
is the suspension to hard on a long run
rear visibity is it ok
how easy to remove roof

any other issues would be gratfully received

Is the "boot" the same size - don't think so
whats the deal with the tyres - depends which ones are fitted!
is the suspension to hard on a long run - if you're happy with Elise suspension then Exige will be fine.
rear visibity is it ok - it's rubbish!
how easy to remove roof - about as easy as removing a hard top.

any other issues would be gratfully received

Boot - Im guessing your upgrading to a S2 Exige?? If so I believe the boots bigger than a S1 Elise.

Tyres - If its to be used as a daily drive I would change for more suitable everyday tyres. Both because of the cost to replace and there poor weather ability. My rear A048's lasted about 4K miles.

Suspension - Ive had no problem with the suspension, longest trip so far is 500 miles which was no problem.

Rear Vis- If its a N/A Exige rear vis is poor but you can see through the rear mesh. If its a supercharged exige rear vis is non existant...but to be honest you wont find it a problem.

Roof- Easy, 5/6 scews to remove. Soft top conversion available from lotus.

Series 1 or Series 2 Exige ? ..theres a big difference ...a Series 2 is like a limo in comparison wink ...the only thing you need to change for road use are the tyres really, other than that it will be far more comfy/practical than your S1 smile

Really? This I did not know!

I was considering an Exige S, but lovely weather like today had me hankering for an Elise.

So you can have the best of both worlds with an Exige?
Any more buffeting than you would get in an Elise?

Ah David Yu of Evo Fame?

Ive never actually taken the roof of my Exige S but ive spoken to a few who have...apparantly Lotus say theres no problem doing so but there may be a slight loss of performance due to less air going into the intercooler. From what Ive heard it isnt noticable though.

The problem being that some believe taking the roof off an Exige is to be likened to burning your grandmother...especially over on Exiges.com.

depends on what you call "best of both worlds" ...with the SC ELise available then the only difference, other than roof arrangement is tyres/suspension...which you can fit to any Elise if you like ...however the bog std Elise tyre/suspension set-up is great for British B roads etc

Unless you are into tracking the car then an ELise is just fine and even then it can be made the same as an Exige, if not better smile

Thanks for the replies chaps.

I just prefer the idea of the Exige (like fellow ex-evo chap Dickie Meaden), but I didn't realise the roof comes off the Mk2.

Going to find one to test drive soon!
