Stage 2 Exhaust
Discussion

I think a Stage 2 is about 104dB, I know a few people were running into problems at Bedford last year with them on. Not many trackdays seem to be 105dB, so you might want to investigate a quieter alternative, 2bular is a good bet!
Thanks for the reply. The car i am considering buying has one on and Oulton Park is my closest track.
I thought a 2bular was the loudest hence the massive amount of people that recomend them??
Are there any MOT issues with a stage two ??

I have lotus stage 2 on my exige and was only just over 98db at Oulton. And that was static, not drive by. Unless you have a decat and induction I would imagine you'll be ok.
The car came with the stg 2 exhaust-its quite boomy, I'm considering Larini/2bular swap anyway.

Is any decent garage capable / have the equipment to carry out a noise test? Is it simply a case of pulling up and asking them if they mind ??The car came with the stg 2 exhaust-its quite boomy, I'm considering Larini/2bular swap anyway.

40,000 miles and three years on mine but there you go, hearsay's always best. When I got it there was nothing else available; that's not the case now and there is better out there.

I wouldn't worry about it, I have it on good authority that the Lotus Sport exhausts are heavy pieces of crap which fall apart a day or so after the warranty runs out. Junk it and get a decent 2bular made which will meet db levels.

Errr...*cough* The mounting bracket on my 2Bular broke after 18 months of comparatively gentle use. To be considered a 'consumable' like all other stainless steel sports exhausts I suppose.
I emailed Jim about fixing it on the 20th April - no response as yet. I know he's a busy guy, but it is somewhat frustrating when you've got a car that's an MOT failure without a robust solution in place.
Hence the Stage 2 that's on there at the moment.
If I can get onto a UK track with that -

I had a Stage 2 fitted & it just about passed at Snetterton but failed the static at Goodwood but they eventually measured it at 98db???? Second sesion i tripped all the sound meters at 104db so early bath for me.
I changed it back to standard before I did Brands GP a couple of weeks ago. I doubt it would have passed using the Stage II. TBH the novelty of the loud exhaust wore off quite quickly especially if you drive it day to day. Other road users/pedestrians usually looked on in disdain unles they they were of the young hood wearing variety.
Just my opinion. Don't get me wrong it does make the care sound fantastic but for me the cons outweighed the positives

I have measured my stage 2 and the results were as expected:-
75dB @ Idle
90dB @ 4000 RPM
between 100-103 dB @ 6000 RPM
Im not sure what the drive by would be.
I believe people run at brands without much bother, but some get pulled at bedford. Not sure about donny but would be keen to hear.
Many people boohoo the stage 2. I'm quite a fan, and I have grown quite fond of the pops and crackles on over run. I am however in agreement that it is heavy and isnt made very well. When it needs replacing i will bang a 2bular on but I would be dissapointed if it didnt make the same noise on over run.

I've got a 2bular 16x6 (unfortunately not on the car at the moment due to a recent Bedford trackday). It's about the same volume as a Stage 2 and does the whole burbling/popping/banging thing. It also weighs a crazy amount less than the standard exhaust (not sure in comparison to the Stage2). Not a fan of the standard exhaust at all, just sounds very bland and no real character Rpm

No idea, sorry! I've never had it tested as up here (north of the border) we don't have noise limits for trackdays (not at Knockhill anyway), and when I did Bedford last year I didn't want to risk it so reverted to the standard exhaust.
