When you say 'funny noise', exactly what sort of noise do you mean?
Screeching? Grating? Metallic rubbing? Metallic knocking? Changes with engine revs?
Whilst its possible for the belt to slip a tooth, the garage would have had to forget to tighten the adjuster for that to happen - a very silly mistake and one that I would expect to have shown its face almost immediately.
How many miles on the clock? Does the engine still run?
Its the noise that is the worry. If the engine just died it could be a host of very simple things (like a fuel line becoming disconnected).

It sounds like a rattle, as though everything is a little out of sync.
55k on the clock, hence C service.
Low revs sound better than high, and the exaghust sorta coughs.

Thanks.

hmm... does sound like valve timing.
I'd call the garage that did the belt job and get them to trailer it back to their workshops.
One tooth out probably won't cause the meeting of valves and pistons but if it slips another tooth, things could become very messy!

WOW!!!! just wait a minute !!!!!

I have spent the last 2 weekends trying to find a fault on my mates elise S1. Faults sounds exactly the same as yours!! As a final thing we two thought maybe its slipped a tooth on the timming. Anyway, looked at that and all fine. As a final guess we thought lets have a look at the cat. Un-did the bolts and took it off. Half of the insides had come loose and turned round in effect virtually blocking the hole so only the smallest amount of gas could escape. Problem solved !!!!!!!!!! We smashed the insides of the cat out as he was going to de-cat it anyway and re-fitted. Its as good as new.

I would bet my car on it that you have the same issue. We tried everything and I mean everything !!!!!!!! Make sure you look at it before going any further !!

Let me know how you get on. Good luck.

Seeing as ( I presume ) all the noises started directly after the cambelt was changed, then the odds of the noise being related to the garage work are high.

I'd take it back and get them to double check everything...preferably trailered there.

I had a collapsed cat on my S1 not long ago. The car would basically make a wheezing noise above certain throttle loads and RPM's but would sound normal with no load. I'm not convinced that the noise the OP describes is the same but to test it, take the rear diffuser off and tap the cat with a block of wood, if the element is loose, you can hear a rattle.

It may be lodged and not rattle so best to check fully to be sure.

Well to get the cat off, just reverse the car onto 2 planks of wood. It will give you enough room.

As for the door switch, what door switch? the door lock?
