Well I'm here again, work has opened up and once again i can look at an Exige.

What i'm in need for is some advice on what cars would you buy out of the two in my link if you had a max budget of 21k and was not fussy of colour but was more concerned with condition and ensuring you weren't being ripped off.

One I'm looking at is £18k MY05 with 44k miles in dark blue from a place in Winchester unknown to me
Second one is £21 My05 with 30k miles in Red from more well know Adrian Blyth

Now both are within my budget and I'm not fussy on the colour so only thing which tears the apart is milage, and condition oh and that Adrian Blyth is a more well know garage than the one in Winchester.

Would like honest opinions on this and would preferably like to buy from a garage as I would like to Px my 182 and the warranty i may get from the purchase.

Can't really comment on the other one but, I test drove the red one at Adrian Blyth the other week before finally settling on a black one. It drove extremely well, was to be serviced and given 2 new Yokos on the rear before sale. The front was armourfended and I have to say it looked to me to be in excellent condition throughout. (It certainly turned heads aswell smile )

This is the second time I have bought from Adrian and can't recommend him highly enough.

i might be mistaken but i think the Chrome Orange one on that link is one that someone on here was buying before it fell off the ramp during prep prior to delivery.

Did anything put you off the one at Adrian B? Went up tonight to have a look as I thought they had a site like C&B in Leatherhead so could only look through the window?

If you'd prefer could you PM

Thanks

If it's cheap then it's cheap for a reason! I'd urge caution as your spending a lot of money, unless you can get it checked by an independent then walk away, do the usual stuff phone the servicing dealer, HPI etc etc etc

I'd go for a car at a dealer's, get a years warranty (Lotus) if you can, pay a little more and get the right car

http://www.adrianblyth.co.uk/lotus.asp

I'd look at this one (Red)

I've brought a cheap R for the Trophy and again it's cheap for a reason

The years warranty is crap TBH if you actually read it, as it's not really a Lotus warranty any more, it's an insurance backed warranty through a 3rd party and excludes most things that would actually go wrong.

Yes I have read them and if the engine goes bang etc your covered, I've made claim's against these types of warranty's without issue

And a fair few of them as well, no dealer is going to stitch you up it's just not worth it

The only thing that put me off the red one was the colour, my preference was black. The black one I bought was also from Adrian Blyth.

Give him a call and arrange a test drive, he is a thoroughly nice bloke and, you'll get a good run in the car.

AA Breakdown cover at £60 a year will help with that...

LOL

Well thats kinda where I am with all this, I love the idea of a Red Exige but its in the same train of thought of having a kyrpton green Exgie or a day glow orange one.....

We'll see has it been there long, seems a good price for what you get?

I think only the Exige S comes with the orange or green paint options, could be wong on that though...

Not sure how long that red one has been there - I first saw it advertised there about 3 weeks ago. No idea how long before that. I gave it a pretty good look over and, on the test drive, it started from cold and had to warm up whilst driving (he knew I was coming so, a good sign he didn't need warm it up beforehand imo).

Buy private, get it checked by someone respectable by handing over the money. You'll save several thousand pounds that way.

Buy your own warranty if you're concerned about that. As Gooby and others have found out to their cost, the Lotus warranty will not cover you in all events of failure, especially when it's engine-related and catastrophic.

It does make much more sense, but I havent for a long time sold a car privatley and not since my mini's in which I had buyers lined up before I sold them...

I think I'll go and see this Exige tommorrow with an open mind. I have yet to drive one and so not sure how it would differ from the Elise S i test drove in january.

I'll keep an eye out for any cars that pop up on classfieds.

Right im looking at it tommorrow big question and not one which should be asked but still would put my mind to rest is how much hard would it be to find another person who wants a Red Exgie if I need to sell it.

Is the market more limited than say a black/orange/grey coloured exige?

I really like the look of it and im not thinking of what i 'may' loose but I dont want to have it on the market forever and a day when i come to sell it.

Same question for Purple is that a well known colour not to sell quickly as this is another colour I'm interested in.

Cheers again for any advice

Oh and if i did want to go private buying who in the South (Portsmouth area) would be a good person to review the potential purchase... is anyone on here qualified in doing so?

All I can say about the red is that, when I originally went for my test drive, I was only interested in the black one. After I had seen them together, I had to go away for 24hrs to think about it as they both looked stunning and I genuinely couldn't choose between them!

Not sure what the market says about red ones but, I loved it (just didn't love it quite as much as the black!)

Sorry to keep posting on this Chris but what type of tracker did it have and does having a tracker significantly benifit me from a insurance point of view?

Damit I think I might buy this tommorrow!!!!

Is there any PH Lotus owner in Portsmouth?

IMHO just buy the one you like. Dont worry about what will be popular. The more individual the car the more chances that come resale someone will spot it and want 'that' spec.

Things that will set it apart from the many that will/are for sale is
1. performance/premium race pack,
2. Orange/white/Krypton.
3. Aircon.
4. some form of paint protection.

I don't know which tracker the car had, only that it wasn't activated. I don't know much about trackers but, I assume that you need to subscribe to the service. It will definitely benefit you from an insurance point of view but, how much will depend on the insurer.
