Well it does for me anyway!
Whilst in ownership of my stunning S1 for 18 months,
I was use to people waving at me in all sorts of stunning cars from other lotus enthusiasts to people in tvr's, even the odd "super" car but now i have sold her & own my current car which is a Clio 182 Cup, i have to settle for people in saxos & fiesta st's waving at me asif im a 17yr old chav! Now there is nothing wrong with saxos or fiestas, but i do not want to be associated with them & yes people will say why did i buy a clio then but in my defense my answer would be because i was doing far to many miles in the Elise & i decided to sell it whilst it was still worth something. I think i may have to join the Elise crowd again sooner rather than later. biggrin

But then you'll do far too many miles in the Clio and because it's a chav chariot no one will want it either, apart from a spotty 17 year old with a paper-round and nothing to spend smile

Don't be so soft, get back in an Elise smile

Far to many miles confused ? No such thing. Cars are for driving and no matter what you do they will lose value over time ,so just enjoy it thumbup
Now sell that chav wagon and get back in an Elise ASAP biggrin

The Clio is great to drive but just isnt the same as an Elise. You are right in what you say & maybe just maybe i will join the family once again.
Oh, i bought the elise with 42k on the clock & covered another 30k in 18 months & if i had continued to do that sort of mileadge each year, it probably wouldnt have been worth much at all by the end of this year, hence the only reason for selling it.

the downside to people waving at you in a Lotus is that every to$$er wants to drive up you ar$e and race you.

Being someone that changes my cars more often than my socks it never ceases to amaze me the difference in owning a Lotus makes to other road users whenever i revert back to a Lotus.

I suppose you have to take the rough with the smooth when owning a Lotus.

17k in 8 months in my S1.... If you were worried about depreciation on cars, yo'd never get off the bus.

I bet the floor onthe value of your Clio is a long way below that of an Elise, so think again... you know it makes sensesmile

Selling a car over mileage concerns is just so wrong IMO :/

I found that more to be the case when I had a 911 and was taking it easy. Since I changed to the Exige S it rarely happens unless I come across RS4's, M3's and the like - but that's fine, I like a challenge!

As for the more standard cars, I suppose the racecar look of the Exige may put them off a bit - but then I drive like a tw@t anyway, so not many get the chance to tailgate me biggrin

Ever since I got my Elise nobody wants to race me. Perhaps they think it's got a massive engine in the back or something biggrin

You probably dont notice anymore cos you cant see out of the back!!;)

Seriously, i have come within a gnats whisker of buying an Exige S a couple of times and at the very last minute it has been the lack of visibilty and the thought of buying new tyres twice a year (every 5k miles) that has put me off. Is it really that bad?

Nah, honestly, it seems a little odd at first, but then it is no different to driving a van (well it is different to a van - but I mean in terms of visibility!).

Once you get used to it, it is no problem, you just need to plan your parking etc a little bit more carefully as reversing in tight spaces is a bit of a bum clencher!

I recently took the mirror out of mine and it helps as you stop instinctively looking into it all the time (to be confronted with a view of the intercooler rad).

I had intended to buy the S/C Elise, which is why test drove the Exige S to feel if the engine was punchy enough. I was concerned about dropping from 355 bhp and 290 lbft, but the supercharged engine in that package provides plenty of "go" - I am just waiting for the 240 bhp PP versions to drop to the £30k mark and then I will swap into one of those.

Twice a year? LOL! Only when it's not driven hard: Mine last a week doing Stelvio. The bugger then is the trek to get them when on the continent.

I'm looking to do 12k a year in my exige (daily runner) and hadnt thought that the tyres only last 5k miles per set!

Can someone confirm this!

Bear in mind A048s come with only 5mm of tread to begin with so it's like fitting almost half worn tyres.
