S1 engine cover sticking

Had this a couple times now where when I go to release the engine cover nothing happens, you can hear the mechanism releasing but the lid stays down. Going for a quick drive seems to jog it free, but it's a bit of a pain and I'm travelling up to Scotland on Friday so it could get to be a bit of a problem.

I'm assuming the issue is maybe something along the lines of the luggage cover catching on the spring, but is this a common problem and is there a reliable way of preventing this? I've stopped dropping the engine lid to close it and instead am pressing it down.

Mine normally frees if you wiggle it from side to side with the lever pulled out. I think its basically the catch misaligning slightly. I try to keep mine well greased as well.

Mines does this also, there are 3 ( I think ) small bolts that secure the boot lid to the hinge on the rear clam, these alway's get a bit loose and the lid manages to move. hence give it a wiggle whilst pulling on the release cable.
