I'm struggling to get a sensible quote - the problem being that despite my advanced years, clean license and only 1 no fault accident in the last 5 years, the car will be an extra vehicle and I have no bonus to transfer to it. one or two companies will take into account the ncb I have on the motorbike that is being replaced by the lotus but the end result still isnt good.

is there a specialist lotus broker or insurance scheme. anyone you can recommend?

I have just insured my car with A-Plan (01635 874646 - There is a thread at the top of this forum with more information!) who have quoted me very happy! biggrin Last year their quotation was a bit off the mark, as I was young (21 years old) and inexperienced at driving a light RWD performance car. However a year on and they have taken the additional experience into consideration. This year their quote has beaten the best price I found through Confused.com/Moneysupermarket.com/Gocompare.com by £100!

Give 'em a call and see what they can do ... thumbup

Both Heritage and CCI have been cheap for me in the past. I think Heritage mirror your NCB, so they just need you to have some NCB on another vehicle

I went with Admiral, £870 for a 118bhp S1 with brake, intake and exhaust mods declared. Aged 23 with 5 years NCB and 3 points.

If you're long in the tooth (like me) try First Alternative and esure over the "net. I think they'll give you some intro bouns if this is a second car!

Admiral are current cheapest for me, Chris Knott wanted 1 years experience of an Elise/VX220 type car.

I'm just waiting to hear back from Henderson Taylor (0161 437 7442) who were recommended by Hagerty (who wouldn't insure it as a only car).

ETA: Just got a call back and they can't do it as I'm under 25.

Hi,

I insured my 111R with classic line insurance (modern classic) as a 2nd vehicle, these guys don't ask for or give a NCB and I found the quote competitive.

http://www.classiclineinsurance.co.uk/

I've not had any experience with them yet as thankfully my 1st 6 months of Lotus ownership have been incident free (apart from my broken wrist meaning no driving for last 6 weeks and next 4!!!) - I hope I'm not tempting fate with that comment!

Cheers,

Tim.

Just hope you never have to claim, business partner had his car stolen on 10th, they've still not got it sorted, "someone will call you next Tuesday (27th) and we'll try and get it sorted". Even though he's paid extra for courtesy car cover, no sign of one yet, and that's with calling them and calling them trying to get it sorted.

When I'm coming up to renewal time I always think "I'll spend some time ringing round to find the best deal" but after talking to two companies on the phone I lose the will to live. Even worse when you get a company based in India, and I can't understand the person!!

Confused.com and a couple of brokers is my limit now.

They rely on that. Try the Dutch auction approach instead.

Every broker has some discretion on the premiums and they use it to ensnare new customers. But you can get at that discount by telling the company you are with that you have a lower quote from someone else. Dont say who - there are such things as cartels where competitors talk to each other. But be convincing.

Wont necessarily get you the cheapest available but will usually stop the yearly increases.
