Eagle laps Ring in 8mins ish.......without trying. ish...
Discussion
Yep!

Its oficial in todays Autocar story that says Lotus test drivers are
ecstatic the Eagle is lapping the Ring in a just over 8 mins and they werent
even pushing it and they are thinking of keeping the aerodynamic aids
seen in recent pictures as they are clearly working.....!
Seems base car has approx 280bhp ...rising to 400bhp with supercharger for
R versions........
Now lets hope it looks good...........
ariba!

I'll believe it, when I see it. Besides, 8 mins-ish can mean a lot... ecstatic the Eagle is lapping the Ring in a just over 8 mins and they werent
even pushing it and they are thinking of keeping the aerodynamic aids

I agree with you there Tim... the point here is, whilst us Lotus fans will want it to run rings round everything at a comparable price bracket on track, I presume the boys at Hethel will be hoping to poach sales from the '000s of potential 997 or 6 series buyers, who would never even think of taking their car to Brands or Bedford.
While there are plenty of us fans out there, its the middle manager on the street who are going to keep the wheels on the Lotus roadshow, so while a neat performnace round the ring is going to be important for the cogniscienti (i can never spell that word)... its going to be crucial to make sure the quality is tip-top because thats where the big bucks are.
Lets face it, many of us have said that we think the 35-40k Elise S is pushing the envelope a bit, which is worrying as we already bought into the brand values. It seems the new car is going to be pitched at the base 997... BMW have spent billions trying to take on that car over the years and failed. I really hope Lotus can pull something good out of the hat!

Whats important is that it looks wow on the inside and out
That the engine note sounds sporty and good
That it's comfortable
Thats its got good performance
If laps the ring in under 8 secs that will be a bonus
The R version should be massively fast if it has 400hp
All in all project eagle looks very promising

I concurr with my learned friend.
Let me give this topic another bump to say that I'd be extremely surprised if the Eagle laps the Nordschleife in anything that would resemble an 8min-ish lap (and by that I mean < 8.10min).
For those interested, Sport-Auto just tested the Exige-S 240 (yes, the one with 243bhp) and lapped the Nordschleife in 8:25 seconds with it. For reference, back a few years, Sport-Auto managed a 8:32 in the NA Exige. Disappointlingly and probably part of the reason, the Exige-S only managed 3km/h quicker than the NA Exige on the long straight (Döttinger Höhe).
Article's a good read, I highly recommend it (for those that speak German).
Cheers Phil

With a V6 with a lot more torque, I'd expect it to be quicker than an Exige, by a fair number of seconds, weren't they saying about 160-170mph top speed? I know the quoted figure isn't everything, especially if it takes half a day to get to it, but with a torquey V6 I'd expect it to be better at reaching the higher speeds. Of course, I could just be talking out my hat.
Correct me if i'm wrong but is'nt the ring a pretty high speed track?
This would i'd guess disadvantage a car like the elise/exige, since even the fastest 235/255hp cars don't really go that much past 155mph and there performance above 100mph starts to tail off.
All the quicker ring cars have tended to have much higher top speeds.

I'd say you're right, yes. The last car I drove round the ring was a low powered Caterham a couple of weeks ago and even that redlined in top gear at about four places round the track, and got jolly close a few others times too. If one had that extra top end speed of a supercar then there's a lot of time to be made up on straights. It makes the R500's time in the high 7s seem all the more impressive! Sounds right, just bought a lotus off a car dealler who is also selling his own 240 cup. Said that in his car he did laps of 8 mins, although he did not say whether they were closer to the 8 or 9min....He did mention that he could stay with the GT porsches around the track except on the straights where the lotus lost time due to its lower top speed.
It could be done.........
new Toyota V6 engine puts out 250Lbs of torque........
the Eagle will be a lot more slippery than an Exige...
less downforce.........
weight 1100kg?..........
the top speed must be close to 170mph............
a Subaru WRX STi Spec-C is 8:06 280bhp weight 1400kg.......
