S1 various questions (cleaning & disassembly / reassembly)
Discussion
Evening chaps and chapesses - In view of the impending long weekend I've finally bitten the bullet and purchased a whole bunch of cleaning stuffs including clay, polish (DoDo Juice - Banana Armour - Should go well on a NMY, yes?), etc in order to give the old girl a proper birthday. I'm planning on doing a really thorough job this time (I have a schedule for the three days!) in the hope of reducing the amount of washing/cleaning to be done in between polishings. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a GJOB, as it gets used fairly regularly, but first question - Any tips / hints?
Second of all, I've searched all the wiki's, seloc, the service manual, but have come up blank - I can see the seats are held in by 4 bolts with allen key heads on the tops, but can I just undo these and remove the seats so as I can remove all the detritus that has accumulated underneath, or is there a securing nut underneath which requires the undertray to be removed? Help! Third and finally (apologies for the essay), is there any reason I shouldn't paint the front facing of the brake calipers (matt black) - I find the grubby dirt colour spoils the car when it is clean?
Thanks in advance

The seats just need the 4 allen headed bolts removing and the bolt in the side of the seat where the seat belt attaches. The 4 allen bolts are different sizes IRRC, so make sure they go back in the same place.
Don't know what condition your grilles are in, but this can make a nice difference when they are repainted or powder coated black again. The front is easy to remove with just a couple of plastic clips. The rears can be a pain and the screws will probably have rusted in place and will need cutting/drilling to remove. Worth doing as it allows cleaning of the rear clam reverse light/fog light areas. While the front grille is out, have a look at the condition of the towing eye post. You can't remove it without taking the clam off, but you can sand it and paint in place until that day when the clam does need to be removed.
