Am I right in thinking that the standard (S2 111s) radio/cd player does not have an AUX in which I can insert a connection to Sat Nav / IPOD?

Many thanks

If it's the Clarion one then no it doesn't. Replaced mine with an Alpine 9850 Ipod unit. Heavily recommend doing this as it sounds much better, and I could get radio reception when the car is moving, something the Clarion never managed.

Did you have any problems with your speedo when you did this??
The reason i ask is that i also replaced the steereo on an 05 111S that i used to own and the speedo stopped working. Lotus dealership eventually found out that it was because the wiring loom within the car was different to the socket on the back of the stereo. Apparantly i was very lucky not to blow the ECU.

Any head unit you buy these days should have a wiring loom that fits on to standard DIN connectors - you unplug the small section of loom that the existing unit is using, then plug in the new section from your new head unit - If you try and use the old one, you could end up in trouble (As you found).

Didn't have a problem with that. I fitted mine to a late 2002 111S, and then swapped it into my 07 111R to replace the joke Blaupunkt DAB unit. Plug and play in both cases.

The plugs fitted perfectly however one of the wires (switched live - purple i think)on the loom now lined up with a permanent live, or something like that. The dealership simply snipped the wire in the end to get the speedo to work again. Apparently the purple wire is for raising the volume of the stereo as the speed of the car increases.

PS
Sold the car a few weeks later so it didnt matter.smile

I have an '03 S2 111s which had a Blaupunkt San Remo in it, I presume as standard. It had no 'standard' phono Aux-in but it does have a modular input socket which to get a feed into you need a blaupunkt compatible lead/socket - I bought one for an ipod input (about a tenner on ebay), which just takes the headphone jack output from the ipod and hence can't control the ipod from the head unit but it plays fine. That said I transferred this set-up into my girlfreinds mini as I've changed my elise to an Alpine 9886 as it also controls the ipod from the head unit, which is much better, as is the sound, asthetics and ergonomics (also put in an Apline SWD1600 sub - highly recommended). I can tell you more if you like.

My 04 S2 111s had the Alpine stereo in it. I bought a special cable that connected my iPOD to the CD changer socket on the back. Real easy job, and worked perfectly. Think the cable cost £12.

You do have to turn the AUX in option on in the menus though.

The sub went into the pax footwell, sitting on top of the back of the pax footrest with its 'base' up against the bulkhead, the bulkhead and footrest are dynamatted and then have some super-thick velcro which actually holds the sub in place, it makes a big difference to the sound, its not 'chavtastically' heavy but its certainly strong enough to do a reasonable impression if you're into basey music. Only issue is it'll need its own power (direct connection to the battery) which I've taken through a drill hole in the bulkhead to the engine bay through the surround to the 'rear' speaker behind the drivers seat. Bought the sub on ebay, can't remember how much but certainly a wothwhile investment if you like music.
