The violent way in which my wife shuts the door on my Elise seems to generate enough energy to cause a sonic shock throughout the UK.

I have asked nicely, I have (apparently) asked aggressively, yet every time the door closes, it's as though the final closing position is on my side. It's now so bad, even the window rattles, presumably in fear.

Has anyone found a 'training method' that enables the door to be closed gently, every time?

I suffer the same problem, there have been a number of times when I thought the shock would open the drivers door and fire me out.

I cringe everytime she does it!

Yea keep your other half out! My misses still carnt get into my motor without scuffing the sill & closing the door without a massive 'Thud'. To her defence, she does drive a Ford Fiesta, enough said!

Glad I'm not the only one. I sort of cringe into a brace position everytime someone is about to shut the door. I'm convinced that one day the car is simply going to snap in half after a passenger has got out.

Ha, I was thinking this very same thing yesterday. I get a lot of visitors for work, many fly to Newcastle, so I often volunteer to pick them up. More often than not they get in the passenger side and slam the door so violently shut, I'm amazed the glass is still in one piece.

Pleased I'm not alone then. laugh

Have you tried being really nice and opening and closing the door for her? That way she can't say anything and the car stays appreciated to the end!

Just a way around it all.

I took my wife out yesterday in the Elise. Generally she moans at me not braking soon enough and all that. My excuse was, I was getting to know my new tyres_ Toyo!

Whenever I have people with me in my Elise I tell them to close the door gently or I close it for them

Elise doors don't close quietly, unless you're a right soft fairy. What's the problem though? They are bloody tough heavy doors, they aren't going to fall off.

Explain to them, as it doesn't have a spring to keep it open, the usual force to shut it isn't required.

Think of it like an internal house door, just pull it shut slowly and don't 'fling' it.

My colleague soon learnt how to do it after i made him walk 6 miles home (well he got 400yds before i let him back in)

I think I know what you are saying. I have a S1 and a S1 111S. I have toyo on one and AO38 on the other. I must say, I haven't felt the Yoko give, but I was pushing the S with the Toyo and it was a very warm day. I think I will take the S1 out and do the same set of corners with the same conditions.

Cringe worthy moments -

They get in and slam the door.
They get out using the windscreen surround for leverage.
They take ages getting in, getting into right old contortions.
They pull themselves up by the windscreen when the roof isn't on.
They let their knees interfere with my gear stick
They ask 'what's that rattling'
They stab the foot rest in sympathetic braking, you have time to look at them, go 'tsk tsk' and then brake.
They scabble around looking for non existant things like sun visors, somewhere to put their drink, seat adjusters.
They lean against/otherwise disturb the beauty of the natural mud and dust on the paintwork.
They ask if the number plate is legal.
They come along with luggage. Which you can't fit in the boot.

On the flip side, any 10 year old will just sit there with a big st-eating grin on their face, pretty much like me, so all worth it then.

My technique for door & window preservation is to put my arm across when I know that certain people are going to slam the door and basically catch the door and then pull it shut at a gentle pace! Only works if you're still in the car though. biggrin

Same here.

If you wish to stop the lady from slamming the door. Exit the vehicle first, walk round the rear of the car (as any good chauffeur doth know, one must never be so rude as to walk around the front and obscure the view of the good lady!), open door, assist her exit, and close gently behind her. thumbup
