As the title says, someone tried to steal my Elise by slicing the roof today

I need to get a new roof, any way of getting one for less than the £700 plus vat I have been quoted or is going through the main channels going to be best?

All feedback welcome

thanks

Matt

I grabbed a brand new touring spec one off ebay for 400 quid the other week. There's one on at the moment at around £300.

That sucks!

Really sorry to hear that, it'll be worth keeping an eye on the classifieds here and on SELOC.

How do they cost that much?!?

Someone sliced my MX-5's roof once and it was £600 for a complete roof, with glass heated rear screen and fitting.

Niche market, respected badge - and the roof, if a cheap and cheerful copy, will really ruin the rest of the car and the niche/respect image.

So Lotus can ask silly money. Their roofs do look good, must admit.

I did used to see them going on e-bay for around 70 quid, and I am pretty sure Eliseparts make a good copy for 250 quid or so - an exchange service???

So annoying though, this kind of idiocy with slashing roofs. I really would like to know how the clown who did this felt when he/she went to bed that night and reflected on the day's happenings?

Pr**k!

Is it an S1 or S2?

If it's an S2 a vx220 roof should fit (they work the other way)

I have my spare black S1 roof at Lotus now for a refurb. Should be back in a few days and will be for sale when I get it back.

It's an S2 roof and as the car is only a year old, I think I would like a new roof.

Spoke to my local dealer and they said it would be a number of weeks before they could get one!!

The guy one the parts desk didn't seem too keen on my suggestion that they take one off one of their cars in the showroom - suggested I speak to the salespeople.

I tried but they didn't call me back.

It will be interesting to see if they do this or not. I would like to buy more cars from them in the future, but my judgment will be swayed if they don't help. They don't just sell Lotus, they also sell Morgans and Astons too. Ideally when funds permit, it would be an Aston I would want.

Lets see how helpful they will be and how good their future sales patter is...

In the meantime, do you have any local boatyards near you, or sailmakers? They might be able to do a patch-up, or even perhaps a proper fix?

Did you offer to leave them a deposit in case you got their one damaged ?
Plus how would they take customers out for a drive in a car with the roof missing ?
