Service cost on a 54 plate 11r, 36k miles cost????
Discussion
Hi Guys, thanks for all your help on my previous posts.
Ive got a 54 plate elise 111r with 35,400 miles on the clock. Long Stratton is telling me it needs a more extensive service than normal and told me roughly £400+vat. Is this reasonable?
According elises.co.uk, which has a service schedule on it, http://www.elises.co.uk/servicing/index.html
A-service at 9,000 miles (15,000km) or 12 months
A-service at 18,000 miles (30,000km) or 12 months
B-service at 27,000 miles (45,000km) or 12 months
A-service at 36,000 miles (60,000km) or 12 months
A-service at 45,000 miles (75,000km) or 12 months
C-service at 54,000 miles (90,000km) or 12 months
A-service at 63,000 miles (105,000km) or 12 months
A-service at 72,000 miles (120,000km) or 12 months
B-service at 81,000 miles (135,000km) or 12 months
A-service at 90,000 miles (150,000km) or 12 months
A-service at 99,000 miles (165,000km) or 12 months
C-service at 108,000 miles (180,000km) or 12 months,
then the car just needs a bog standard A-Service. So on that basis, £400+vat approx sounds damn expensive.
What do you think? Does an A catagory service rather than a b or c service sound correct?

From what I can see looking at the maintenance record for mine, it'd be an A service plus coolant change which is due at 4 yrs. Don't know what would be a reasonable charge for changing the coolant but that may be what they're hinting at.
Can't help with finding anyone to do it near York though.

According to the service schedule I have in front of me (from my service log), the only thing that should need doing other than standard is the coolant - unless the air filter wasn't changed at the last service (27k) - Which it should have been, transmission oil level should have been checked as well.

Iirc, those service intervals are for a K-series engines, you have a 'yota engined car so are different. £400 from a main stealer sounds about right if they are changing coolant as well.Ive got a 54 plate elise 111r with 35,400 miles on the clock. thanks guys.
TrackvRoad is useful to know as thats definately the closest to me.
In the end, Ive got Long stratton to do it for £400 cos the car had to go there to have the heater fixed (under the garage 1 year warranty) so I figured its here already and the full long stratton lotus service history would remain intact.
Thanks for your help everybody.

Yup, £225 - £250 seems to be normal dealer rate for an A. Think CNs is £225.That´s far to much A service 225 pounds for the service plus coolent I´d say around 250 all in

take a look at Lipscomb's website. They're in Kent, so too far for you, but at least it will give you an idea (they're a main Lotus dealer).
I think I know who you're talking about, Kevin, and while I did that route a couple of times (and being very wary of our name and shame rules) it was my opinion that I was better off spending £225 on a full service than £115 on an oil change. I know you guys think well of the guy, and indeed I did too, but a couple of experiences (and very GOOD experiences of Lipscombs) mean I now happily go there everytime, even though they are perhaps £100+ more expensive.
A good example; my Exige went to Lipscomb at the end of May for it's first service with them. The guy phoned me up at lunch and walked me round the entire car (via the phone), they'd very obviously checked it thoroughly. And I don't mean "you need new tyres" but detailed info about the car, it's use, it's state, forthcoming possible work etc. I was very impressed and (as I've said) have had good service from them many times; plus, I like the guys down there.
"elsewhere" I have indeed had the dealer stamp for £100 (on my elise) but all it was was an oil change and water top up. Literally (on the two occasions I stayed there with the car).
Hope you see what I mean - I'm not trying to knock someone who I know you guys think a lot of, but I'm just saying I did go that route and decided it wasn't for me.

Agree with Tony. I too used to go to the certain mechanic. Cannot knock their work as they have done several services, as well as a very good repair.
Trouble is they take too much work on, car is never ready when they originally say & you're standing around waiting. Add in the price of petrol to get down there, the waiting etc and it all adds up.
I discovered Lipscomb & was blown away. Really nice guys, completely honest about all aspects of the service, fixed a few other little niggles I had with the car & put on gear linkage etc without so much as a raised eyebrow, all for a very reasonable price. Even better still they drop you off at the gym round the corner whilst its getting done & the cars washed afterwards.
It doesn't end up much more expensive than the other garage after this & its just so less stressful.
