Well, the time has arrived!

After many phone calls, arranging and planning, I have my flight to Bristol tomorrow morning (from Edinburgh) to finalise the purchase of the Europa S, with Thorney 235 bhp upgrade.

I'm mega excited. I have been planning and dreaming about buying a Lotus for years and it's all happening now.

My favourite PH threads are about people describing buying their pride and joy and now it's my turn!

I'm just packing all my stuff so I can get an early night and be ready for the 6.30 a.m. cab to the airport. I'm being met by the Lotus dealer when I get to Bristol and I'll take my test drive and get the final price agreed.

And then I have the pleasure of a drive up the length of the country back home and to get used to my new steed (all things being well of course, the car and the price working out).

I'll post snaps as soon as I get home.

Wish me luck fellow PH'ers...

Tom.

Sounds like a brilliant way to pick up a new car! You'll certainly remember it. I'll bet some people will think you're crackers (not on here though!) going that distance. Enjoy the drive back- weather looks ok for tomorrow.clap

Weather forecast for Bristol looks good for tomorrow.

Good luck.

Keep an eye out for a LRG S1 with yellow alloys.

Thats the fella. Eyes will be peeled!

I'll be taking it easy though, engine is barely run in and I'll be treating this as a voyage of discovery in terms power/grip etc.

Glad the weather reports are good.

I should be heading off for snooze soon but I'm too excited! Proper xmas eve stuff this is!

Tom - have a great day! Great car and a great drive home. I am very jealous of that car on the roads around Edinburgh. Absolute heaven!

Take it easy, drive sensibly and just enjoy the experience. Build speed and slowly and develop your experience.

Tell us about it tomorrow.

I did the exact same trip a couple of weeks ago, only in reverse, flew from southampton to edinburgh to pick up my S1 Exige and then drove it 400+ miles back to wimborne (nr bournemouth) Awesome trip. :-) Good luck

Nice one Tom, that's not a lot of cash for a fantastic car - maybe see you around up here, let us know how it went.

Sorry for the delay in updating this thread, and thanks to everyone for the positive comments.

I got the car!

It was exactly as described, aside from a misunderstanding about the (lack of) SatNav and my plans for driving it back that day....

Had a tentative drive initially as the rain started to fall as I left Bristol but that cleared up pretty quick and I got to learn about the car.

First impressions - Driving position was excellent, probax seats were uber comfortable and I just loved the view with from the drivers seat with the wings poking up on either side of my vision and the eye-ball vents - very '60's sports racer!

Rearward visibility was terrible as expected so I paid greater attention to what was happening behind me to make up for the fact I couldn't check my blind spot.

As soon as it dried up I gave it a few prods of the right foor - Whoa! Power a plenty! 70 to *cough* was devastating . I was a happy boy....

Quite uneventful drive up the M32 to M4 and M5. Then I turned off onto the A302 biggar road to Edinburgh. YES - These were proper Lotus roads and the car really came alive. Even happier boy!

Overall, A great experience buying and driving this car home. I would have to agree with some of the comments made here that the engine note wasn't the sweetest. A little truck-like at idle and wshing machine like on the move but this can all be remedied at later date.

This doesn't detract from the car at all and I'm so glad that I made the move and made my Lotus ownership a reality...

Some snaps for you guys (and gals)

Old and new!
