Just fitted Yellowstuff brake pads

Thought I'd post a quick message that I took the plunge and bought some of the newly developed Yellowstuff R brake pads from EBC. A whole set for the S1 cost £103 delivered inc VAT from Brakes4you. They came with all the anti-rattle pads too etc.
Anyway, I have to admit I cant believe how much bite these pads have got !!!!!! they still have the red bedding in layer on them and they still need to bed to the discs but they feel incredible. Just drove the car for 10 mins to seat them in and do some light braking. Need to get a couple hundred miles under them to bed them fully but so far, massively impressed! I will report on how they get on in due course. Also will be doing a track day at Donnington on August 6th so will report back then on how they stood up.

Just to add some balance, I've also fitted these and I'm still a bit undecided hence the reason for not posting yet. It's been a while since I tried a car with 1144's but I'm just not sure if they've got the same initial bite.
Yes, whilst the red bedding in layer was still there, the bite was awesome but the discs would last about 1000 miles if all the pad was this material. Once this had gone, the pads from day one were better than OEM but I'm reserving judgement on whether they're better than Mintex until I've done more miles (only @150 miles so far). I've got a day at Curborough next Tuesday so should have more to report after this.

To be fair EBC have changed the compounds mix of all of there pads. So it would be un-fair of anyone who's tried them in the past to slate them. Thousands of car people highly rate these and with good reviews so far from Tipper and Beachbum, I thought may as well give them a try. At under half the price of pagids too, are the pagids really worth over double? I know you should never take second place on brake pads but many track cars have won races on EBC pads.
Anyway, too early to give a verdict on mine yet but I will let you know how I get on.....

Hi Piooly... coincidentally having an instant messenger at this same time with Beachbum on this very subject.
EBC website doesn't give yellow stuff as an option for my 1999 S1 but as BB pointed out you have a 160 and so does Tipper. Have sent an email to get confirmation.
Found them on t'internet for £97 all in which I think is a good price but anyone found them cheaper elsewhere ?

Hi there, also interested to see how you get on with these. I used to run Green stuff which I always thought were OK, I now have 1144 and when they have expired, I may consider the yellow stuff. If you don't mind me asking, where is the additional pad material you mention?

I know the EBC website does not list yellowstuff pads for the elise, only greenstuff and redstuff. You can defo get it for the S1 though. Doesnt matter which model you have as long as they are for an elise, 340R, exige, they will fit.
I too am running Yellow Stuff pads (free issue)and I'm also using EBC GD1190 drilled and grooved discs (paid for).
I may have put the most miles on these so far as part of the evaluation, nearly 3000 miles now.
I'm yet to get out on track but running these daily on my 111R I cannot fault them, their cold bite is good and when up to temperature they scrub the speed off relentlessly during sprited driving.
I expected a lot of dust so I sealed the wheels with Autoglym Alloy Wheel Seal but to be honest the dust doesn't seem that bad, i would go as far as saying the amount looked 'normal'.
The brakes haven't squeeled once yet!
I will reserve my judgement til i've been out on track and have done some brake comparisons with other 111R owners (any volunteers - silverstone area?)

Funny pads when bedding in. My first thoughts where they had no bite at all. Then I did and then I didn't. Or was it the other way around?!!
Anyway, I went to Snetterton with them and was well impressed.
Plenty of bite when you lean on them and very easy to modulate on a soaking wet track. I reckon they aren't as 'grabby' as the Mintex can be.
Work very well on road too and again load of stopping power when you lean on them.

Well did a track day at donnington yesterday and gave the Yellowstuff pads a serious workout. So far the results are excellent I have to say. On the road they felt great, started a few laps and they then felt a bit stoddgy. I'd already done 300 miles of road driving on them but not really heavy stuff. (think they just needed a good heat cycle to bed in fully) Anyway after a few mins of cooling in the pits, went out again and they just got better and better the more I used them. I was out for over 20 laps at one time and they never faded or let go. Really was very impressed. Took some others out in the car and they were impressed too by how well they stopped. They also create virtually no brake dust! My wheels are still clean !!!
They are much better than the Mintex 1144 pads I used to have, both on road and track. And at £100 a set I will definetely be buying them again. Cant recommend them enough.

Update, went to Bedford for an evening track session last night. Very Very impressed with their performance. Will defo be replacing with the same again.
I appreciate their are others who like Pagids etc but for me the fact they have no squel, great hot and cold bite, no fade and low dust make them an all round winner in book
