Just spent 2 hours in a wet and miserable car park with the RAC. Car would not unlock with the key fob. It was going through the motions, but the buttons would not pop up on either door. Tried the obvious jump leads on the battery, disconnect and reconnect battery, reset engine kill switch in engine bay, use rod to press rocker switch infront of gear lever, all with no result. The only option left was to have it recovered to a dealer, this presented issues with recovery, as the h/brake was on, low entry barrier, and surrounded by other parked cars. Out of desparation I rang local dealers, P Smith, who were great, even ringing a tech, who was on holiday. Eventually with their direction the silver door buttons were raised fully, whilst the lock was 'unlocked'. This enabled me to drive it home, and lock it with the keys only. I can lock with the fob, but cannot unlock with anything but pulling the buttons up.
Looks like it is a central locking unit that is playing up, so it's off to P Smiths tomorrow.....

Cannot thank them enough for the help and time given.

so, how much will this cost me then, any ideas?

£35 parts and about £180 labour. Any more and you should question it.

well if its jus teh central locking motors, these are very cheap. Maplin sell them individually for about £5-£10. They are generic on most cars....

Unfortunately yes. An independent might do it the hard way without removing the dash and save few quid or you could DIY, just lots of screws to take out and put back in the right order really.

yikes

Just found out how to thank them, MORE THAN ENOUGH.

Labour charges £85 ph + VAT (2.7 Hrs labour) to fit a £40 control unit.

ONCE BITTEN....................

I had the same problem a couple days ago, had to use a coat hanger to get into the car. I phoned a Lotus dealer and they said it would cost about £300 to fix frown
So I order the part and decide to do it myself, found a get link to help.

Once the hose was out the way, found the bolts that hold the module in were quite easy to move (with a small screwdriver), so just replace the module. It took me about an hour....
