It was the fire breathing bioethanol version and it was more than a bit disappointing with a 0-100 time only just under 13 seconds.

It seems to me that a lot of lotus road tests reveal results way off the claimed figures but not consistently.

The engine changes with time. After about 6k miles the engine loosens up considerably.

The difference between the same cars with over 60k miles between the engines is the old engine will pull 3 car lengths in about a mile starting from a rolling in 3rd gear.

and the relevance of that in this case is exactly what?

that car has been around for some time, it's hardly new.

I fully expect there to be some words about it had a specific problem and was not running right etc etc...

not knowing the individual car - old or new can have a considerable effect on the figures produced in test.

Next time I will spell it to you.

Is that 0-100 or 0-100-0?

If the former, it is, indeed, rather disappointing...

LOL!

so, your quite happy to spell it out for me, but you CBA to actually look at the car in question and notice that it;s the same car that's been touted round the press for the last 12 months? ..........Quality..

Question:

why is it you feel the need to make such posts in the first place? are you tasked with being the offical Lotus deffender when it comes to this stuff? Why can you not let the results speak for themselves?

last year in the same test the Exige S did better IIRC than the 270bhp Bioethanol jobbie this year - thats what was strange. Usually in real world 0-100 tests even the 220bhp S model is about 12secs ish, and this one with 270bhp (supposedly) was slower and nearer 13

..its been proven many times, by every car mag Ive read on paper or on-line, that the Exige S is a 12sec acr to a ton, not a 9.9sec car like the claims ...the latter is obviously only achievable by factory test drivers in perfect conditions after a days practice wink

..you and I or Autocar testers will get about 12secs out of it...and if you think about it with a 300bhp car some 70kg lighter doing 9secs easy enough then 12secs for a 220bhp heavier car seems about spot on.

Surely it wouldn't take much pratice ? Its only a standing start on a flat straight track where the driver has to get to 100mph ASAP , presumably that car even has traction control , im sure my mum could do that .;)

exactly, hence the wink..nudge...nudge, its a 12sec car period, not a 9.9 to a ton one ...the 2-eleven can just make that with launch control, more power and a lot less weight ....seems like the marketing dept cocked up when they launched the Exige S

Thing is the road tests for the standard Exige/Elise R are a bit more consistent with pretty much the same time.

I guess my point is that Lotus engines are fussy and a bit highly strung. I know my Esprit is very picky about stuff like barometric pressure, coolant temp etc etc before it wants to give me full power. Might be the Exige launch control.

I am hoping that the evora with is low output per litre is the first lotus in a long time to deliver all the time like you know a german car would.

Mines a lot quicker than 12secs with the launch control crancked up. I always thought it was the performance pack exige s which could reach 100 in 10 secs??

Most magazines put a passenger in too. More of a disadvantage for an Exige or Elise than something like an M3. Crazy, but they all do it!

Autocar did not do this though.... just the driver....
