Hi guys hope you can help me,

Just replaced the front pads on my S2 Elise, disks were not changed. Used mintex pads, but now getting a tapping on braking, sounds like the caliper piston hitting the pads or similar....

Checked the rattle plastes which seem fine so just wondered if there is anything else it could be, or if the mintex pads are just a bad fit, if so whats anyone else using?

Car will be on the stands today anyway so if anyone has some quick advice much appreciated!!!

Thanks,

Nathan

It will probably just take a little while for the new pads to bed into the old discs .

Most aftermarket pads are a little smaller than OE, so there is room for them to move slightly under braking, causing a sudden "clunk" or "knocking" noise when you apply the brakes.

The anti rattle pads (as opposed to anti squeal pads) which are applied to the caliper do alleviate this somewhat. Many people apply them incorrectly though.

I did the same as you recently and replaced with the Mintex - exact same problem, and it is because the Anti Rattle pads have worn, Eliseparts do some for a few quid - if you have changed the pads, then its a simple procedure to put the anti rattle pads in - just follow the instructions on the Selc Tech Wiki
